   Leave a treat for Stacey

Nicknames:
Princess, Glamour Puss

Quick Bio:
-purebred-cat rescue

Coloration:
Mackerel

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story:
Stacey was found abandoned outside the ASPCA on the Upper East Side one morning, and taken to the Animal Care and Control of NY (formerly the Center for Animal Care and Control), where she ended up on the "euth list." She was rescued and subsequently adopted by a family who returned her to the shelter, saying she "soiled the house." She was rescued again by my friend, and I fell in love with Stacey as soon as I met her--on Christmas day!

Bio:
So she still acts like she's on probation; she was with the other family about a month before they brought her back to the shelter. She's been loosening up--the real breakthrough was when she started eating again--but she's clearly on edge, because she's clearly expecting we might take her back to the Bad Place.

I died last night

Mom found me this morning curled up in my little box and thought I was just asleep until she noticed my tail was stiff. "Oh, no!" she said. I really looked like I was asleep.

She always tried to let me know I was a good cat; I lived with them for less than a year.

They've been giving me water under the skin, and today I had to go to the vet to get my staples removed; I cried out when he took one of them out--not so rough, okay? They still don't know how long I have, and I'm operating with only one kidney, but Mom is happy to see I'm doing so much better.

I just took a swipe at Mom now when she tried to put me in the carrying bag; she sees I'm getting my strength back! Nobody calls me "pussy"!

I'm at the vet right now; Meowmie had to leave me for observation (they're going to do a "biopsy," whatever that is) because he felt a mass in my abdomen.

I'm scared; of course they think it's cancer, and considering that I've been eating and eating and haven't gained any weight (at 7 pounds I'm the same weight as my runty little brother--and waaay underweight) it seems pretty obvious. They brought me in today when I stopped eating and couldn't even jump up to my perch.

Mom says she'll do whatever she can, but it doesn't look good. I just want to be able to eat again--and go home; it's scary here!

Update: I'm home now, and the news wasn't good. Not only do I have a cancerous mass, my kidney function is waaay down. The vet said I'm much older than 2 (a lady never tells her age!)

They'll get the results from the biopsy sometime this week, and they're hydrating me twice a day, in hopes of keeping my kidney function going. Nobody knows how long I have, and Mom's main consolation is that for the past few months she gave me a real home.
