PLEASE Help Make Our Dream Come True!!

October 25th 2010 8:31 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 1 person already has ]

I'm flying in from the Bridge to ask you to help make a dream come true for me and other cats with feline leukemia (FeLV).

My Meowmy has visited several times with the wonderful folks of Blind Cat Rescue of NC. It is Alana, the director's, dream to build a sanctuary for FeLV cats like me and FIV kitties, too.

They are entered in the Pepsi Challenge and are so close to winning $50,000.00!!! Yes! The top ten projects will each win. We were in tenth place but now have dropped to eleventh and the contest ends on NOVEMBER 1. If they aren't back in the top ten by then, all hope will be lost.

I had FeLV while on earth...so did my sisfurs Darcy and Seven and my dear littermate Cider. FeLV cats can have happy and fulfilling lives but we are killed immediately in shelters and many owners don't want us once they know we are positive. Please help make a sanctuary for us a reality but voting and spreading the word...we deserve to live, too!!

We are only ONE place away from $50,000!!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...vote...pass the word...make diary entries asking for votes...use every email address you have...send emails to friends asking for votes...anything you can think of to help make this dream come true.

Here are several ways you can vote:

1) Text 102422 to 73774 You’ll get a confirmation thank for voting text. Only your standard texting fee applies.

2) Go to http://pep.si/9g8Ojg and vote using your email and anyone else's you have! Set up alias accounts, if your provider lets you do that, and vote, vote, vote! Ask your furriends, family, and neighbors. Vote at work! (Don't get fired now!) MOL!

3) Log out and vote at http://pep.si/9g8Ojg with your Facebook page. Many kitties belong there as well as humans. My meowmy meets lots of nice folks there! Post on your status with the links so even more can vote!

This is such a wonderful chance for everyfur to make a real difference in the lives of cats. Time is running out! PLEASE help the FeLV and FIV kitties find a safe, loving home at Blind Cat Rescue!!!

Thank you fur reading my diary!!
Purrs from The Bridge,
Bo

Blind Cats CAN See a Future!

My Meowmy asked me to sprinkle some magic angel dust from the Bridge today for a very special cause!

I have two Earth brofurs who are blind and one sisfur who is visually impaired. Here at the Bridge, I have LOTS of furriends who were blind while they were on Earth. AND my sisfur Scarlett is here, too! She was blind on Earth and my Meowmy loved her so very much. She was her first blind cat.

Did you know that even 'no-kill' shelters sometimes euthanize blind cats because they are considered 'unadoptable'?
Did you realize that a blind, black blind cat - like our Bones and Charcoal - stands virtually no hope of adoption?
That cats can become blind due to birth defects, trauma, untreated disease, and yes, even human cruelty?

BUT...
Did you also know that blind cats love to climb??
That they love to play with cat toys??
That they run and jump and enjoy life JUST LIKE OTHER CATS?

AND...
Did you know that there's a very special place for blind cats? A place where they are treated with love, respect, and care? It's TRUE!

This heaven-on-earth for blind cats is Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary of North Carolina, featured in the June, 2010 issue of Cat Fancy. www.blindcatrescue.com
BCR is the dream and life's work of a very special woman, and the Sanctuary depends on the sponsorships of the cats and donations from caring people around the world.

But YOU can help BCR today and everyday in the Shelter Challenge at The Animal Rescue Site! It's FREE and EASY and it can truly make a difference.
http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces? siteId=3

Our Stevie, Bones, and Charcoal are some of the lucky ones. They found a loving, caring home, thanks to messages sent to my Meowmy from BCR! Other kitties need the resources only a Rescue can provide.

Won't you help by voting today and every day during the contest for Blind Cat Rescue of NC? (Don't forget to confirm your vote by identifying the animal photo shown after you vote!)

All the blind kitties will purr in gratitude!!

My Bridge Journey Day

After living five years with FeLV, today I flew to the Bridge to join my littermate brother Cider. I stayed healthy as long as I could but my bone marrow stopped working. I never wanted to leave my meowmy but my body could no longer fight and I slipped away in my sleep at the vet's office.

Now I am making my Bridge Journey. I can hear my meowmy's cries and taste her tears but she knows I'm healthy and will soon be with Cider, Darcy, Dylan, and so many other angel furriends at the Bridge. And one day, I'll run to Meowmy again and rub
my face against hers again!

(I love you, my Bo Cat! You were the happiest, most loving cat I've ever known. I'll
miss you always until we are together again!!)

A Step Forward for Eve!!

So many of you have supported Meowmy, Mama Terry and their friends' quest to find Justice for Eve, the sweet kitten who died shortly after being adopted from Okefenokee Humane Society in Waycross, GA. You can read all about Eve on her Catster page:
http://www.catster.com/cats/1086369

I asked Meowmy to update you on a positive development!! A man from the GA Department of Agriculture answered Meowmy's (third) email to that office! He asked for Eve's medical records, saying they were necessary for an inquiry to proceed. Of course, Meowmy sent them right away. So it looks like someone has noticed us!! PURRRRRR!!!

This may take time. (Has the government ever moved quickly??) We promise to keep you updated when we have news.

For all who care about Eve, please take a moment and sign her petition, if you haven't already. It's never to late to take a stand for all the animals still at Okefenokee HS. Thank you for caring so much!!!!

Wishing Upon a Star for Eve & FLOCK Justice

It snowed today but Meowmy says there are a few stars peeking through the clouds. She says if I make a wish, it might come true. I'm going to make TWO wishes! And YOU can help them come true!!!

Wish #1:
Many of you have read the heartbreaking story of my sisfur Eve. I never got to meet Eve, due to the neglect she suffered at Okefenokee Humane Society in Waycross, GA (Ware Co.) Meowmy and Eve's to-be adoptive Mommy Terry, along with their friends, are asking everyone to write snail mails or emails to the folks on the list below. Be polite but ask for an investigation into the conditions at OHS. So far, we have had only one noncommittal reply. You can read my back diary entries for that actual letter. If enough of us write and express our concern for the animals still there, surely someone will listen to us. Please help us bring Justice for Eve!!

Wish #2:

Starlight, star bright, first star I see tonight...I wish I may...I wish I might...find justice for my friend Muppet and the FLOCK cats.
http://www.catster.com/cats/624959 - Muppet's page

Muppet is my furriend, and she's a survivor! She was at a huge cat 'rescue' called FLOCK. These cats were left to starve and several hundred did not make it. Muppet was critical but she was so strong and fought so hard to live! And she did! Best Friends Rescue took over and thanks to hard workers like Muppet's wonderful furever mommy and others, the surviving cats had a chance for happy, healthy lives.

Unfortunately, the case against the bad people who ran FLOCK was DISMISSED!!!! I'm going to quote now from Muppet's diary:

"...And on this note, and the main reason for my diary entry, we are asking all of our Catster friends to please write a letter to our District Attorney, Bob Beckett, letting him know how outraged every animal lover is that his office failed to properly see that there was justice for Flock. Although he has filed an appeal, we want Bob Beckett to know just how many eyes are upon him and how he better not let his office mess it up this time! Meomy was told that this case was ‘purposely hidden so the outcome would be a dismissal.’ And in today’s paper it states, “Beckett’s notice of appeal was filed yesterday. Gibson (General Council for FLOCK) said that surprised him because he and Beckett had struck a deal that the case would go no further.” Struck a deal? Humph!!

If everyone who cares about this case could please write a 'snail mail' letter to Bob Beckett, it could really help this case a lot. We need a flood of mail to come in. And thank you to everyone who already have sent letters! *grateful hugs*"

Mr. Robert Beckett
District Attorney, Nye County
1520 E Basin Ave
Pahrump, NV 89060

I'm just one cat, but I speak for so many when I beg you to write to DA Beckett and to those with authority over Okefenokee Humane Society. Sadly, neglect and abuse of helpless animals happens every day. Usually there isn't much we can do. Here is the chance for caring, truly HUMANE people like my Meowmy and Muppet's Mommy to join your voices together and take action! Write DA Beckett, please. Write or email those in Ware County who can help the poor animals still at OHS.

You CAN make a real difference! They may ignore a few of us, but they cannot ignore us ALL.

Bless you for caring! Thank you so very much, HQ, for giving us the opportunity to inform Catsters and Dogsters about these heartbreaking cases. We love Catster!!!

We finally got the emails of the board members of the Okefenokee Humane Society!! These are the people who have control over the animals, like Eve, waiting there for forever homes. I'm also posting the county commissioners emails as they control funding for OHS.

Please!! Take a moment and email them, asking for an investigation of the circumstances surrounding Eve's malnutrition, spaying and death. Be polite but firm. Let them know we are also writing the state agriculture department. Eve's death should matter, and we are the ones who can see that it has meaning and importance. Bless you!!!!

The campaign for Justice for Eve, and all the animals still at the Okefenokee Humane Society, is still gaining steam! Since we've receive only one response from all the people we've contacted through email, we've decided to switch tactics. Let's flood the offices with snail mail! Meowmy wanted me to post an update about our sweet Angel Eve. Many of you already know her story but you can read about her on her Catster page. http://www.catster.com/cats/1086369
Eve's story has been the focus of this week's Cat's Meow!
http://blogs.catster.com/the-cats-meow-a-cat-and-kitt en-blog/humane-society-it%E2%80%99s-not-always-a-pawsative-p lace-part-1/2010/02/16/

Meowmy and Mommy Terry, along with friends and supporters of Eve's, have written to the government officials mentioned below. As of today, they have received a total of 0 responses. It seems Eve's mommies and their furriends are being ignored by those in a position to help improve the situation at Okefenokee Humane Society.

In Eve's memory, we are asking any of you who can to contact these people, asking for an inquiry into Eve's case and conditions at OHS. If enough voices are raised, perhaps we will be heard.

How I Gets a New Nickname!

September 29th 2009 9:27 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 2 people already have ]

Meowmy has given me a new nickname! I's now called:
Bo Cat...Bo Bo...Big Boy...Tabby Boy...and...
Houdini!

Can you guess why?
No?

I's gonna tell you!

Meowmy and Purrdaddy has always said I cannot goes outside. I has somethin' called FeLV. I isn't sure what that is, but it means I's an inside kitty all the time.

I decided I doesn't like that! Not at all! Outside is nice! Outside there is bugs and sunshine and breezes and birds and butterflies and flowers and...well, lots of stuff!

So I decided that I's gonna change things. I watched Meowmy and Purrdaddy fur a long time. I figured it out! They's big. They's able to do stuff like talk and drive that big old car thing, but...

They isn't very fast! I's SOOO much faster!

I started hiding around the corner from the door to the garage. Beside the 'frigerator is the bestest place...or the clothes dryer, if they is goin' out the side door. Once the door is open and they's concentratin' on gettin' out, I runs! I runs SOOOOO fast! Before they knows it, I's out the door!

Our garage has a cat door so Brofur Catfish can get inside if he needs to in a hurry. It didn't take me long to figure out where that cat door is! I flies through it and...
I'S OUTSIDE!

At furst, Meowmy or Purrdaddy would chase me and fuss at me and bring me back inside. But I didn't give up! I kept runnin' outside!

Now they's decided that as long as I stays in the front yard and they's out with me, I can visit the OUTSIDE! I can chase bugs and I can jump on leaves and I can follow Brofur Catfish around. It's SOOOOO cool!

I can't go out at night 'cause they might lose me in the woods. I can't go out without Meowmy or Purrdaddy 'cause of my FeLV thingy. But about once a day, when I runs outside, they lets me stay awhile.

I's such a very happy kitty cat! I's an inside and outside-fur-a-little-while kitty! Isn't I lucky???

Signing off,
Houdini-Bo-Cat

How I Gets Lost Outside at Night!

September 8th 2009 10:45 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 2 people already have ]

Well, not lost, really. I knew where I wuz! Meowmy just didn't!

It happened like this...

Meowmy wuz unloading groceries. She'd already fed us some delicious fish flavored cat food. Mmmm!!!! On her second trip, I waited silently near the door...waiting...stalking...stealthy and silent...until...I...pounced!

As Meowmy struggled to carry groceries and her purse inside, I flew out into the garage. Looking back over my shoulder, I knew she hadn't seen me!

I wuz free!!!!!!

I sniffed the grass. I chased two yellow butterflies, but I couldn't catch them. I batted some leaves scuttling across the driveway. I jumped out at Holly dog from behind some bushes. I ventured into the woods and sniffed and sniffed.

It began getting darker. Hmmmm....Usually Meowmy would have been calling me by now...

I hung around the cat door that leads into the garage. Holly wuz inside, munching her dry dog food. I wuzn't hungry, but I wuz gettin' tired. Meowmy?

It wuz dark...really and truly dark. I heard crickets and frogs. Out in the woods behind the house, an owl hooted, then glided silently through the air. Meowmy???

Then I heard them...

It wuz an eerie, scary sound. Lots of barks and yelps, coming from over the hill, back through the woods. It didn't sound like dogs. I'm not afraid of dogs, but I wuz scared of these...whatever they wuz.

Meowmy had mentioned something called 'coyotes'. She said they wuz bad, that they would attack kitties!!! Could those scary yelps and howls be...coyotes????

MEOWMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then I heard it...close by and insistent. Lights appeared suddenly from the house, bringing a warmth to the chill of darkness. It wuz Meowmy's voice, calling ME!!!!!

I ran fast as I could through the woods, meowing and meowing and meowing!!!! Meowmy!!!

Meowmy scooped me up, hugging me and fussing at me all at once. But I didn't mind. She was warm and safe and would protect me from those awful, terrible coyotes.

As we entered the house, I glanced back over my shoulder, breathing in the night air and listening once more to the crickets and frogs.

Outside is a nice place to vist...but I sure wouldn't want to live there!!!!!
