Arrival Story: In August 2006 I moved from a small 1-bedroom apartment to a larger townhome. By the end of the month I had settled in and decided it was time to adopt a pair of cats. I visited PetSmart because I heard The Almost Home Foundation had adoption drives on Saturdays. I knew I wanted a cat, not a kitten. Cats don't need to be trained, their personalities have developed, and they are more relaxed. Most importantly I wanted to give a cat a second chance to have a home. I arrived when people were setting up. I had already decided to adopt Sarge. Since he was declawed, his cat-sibling also needed to be declawed. Lena was the only other declawed cat there. Originally she was a stray and was adopted by a couple who were going to have a baby. But when she was one year old she had to be returned because the new child was very allergic to cats. Even if there were other choices, I knew I had to bring her home too.

Bio: Hello! My name is Lena. I love to play. I can jump over four feet along a wall to swat at the red light bug. Daddy says I am The Great Tabby Hunter, well I would be if I still had my front claws. I'm smart enough to stay inside unlike my big step-brother Sarge, but I will sometimes follow him into the garage. I love being brushed and I demand Daddy get down on the floor to brush me several times a day. I like being held but not to be petted, but to sleep. When Daddy lies down I will sometimes jump on top of him to make biscuits or take a nap. I'm so happy I have a furever home with him. When his friends come over, I just stay in the back. I'm a one-person kitty. Gotta go now, the evil chipmunk is outside!

Dad took the day off work today. This morning a handyman came over to fix one of the stairs. A support broke and the stair went out of its groove. Anyway while a new support was being made I jumped into the hole the stair was covering up. Dad was NOT happy about it. Pepi almost went in too but he stopped her. Then I popped out after he called me. So there I was, under the stairs like that magic kid. Tee hee.
Pepi and I hid under the bed when the noises got loud. During a break, Dad opened a window and closed the door so we couldn't get into any trouble. Of course that was before he really understood how cold it was after the flooding.
But shortly after the stair was fixed and we were out of the bedroom safe and sound. The stair feels different now. I guess we were so used to stepping on it when it was loose that it being fixed is a new experience. At least I know what's under the stairs now.

Daddy took a day off work today to relax. He slept a little later than usual which was nice because I like to sleep on him. He put some canned food on a plate for me and Pepi. Yummy! Then he went down to get the other carrier. That can mean only one thing! I knew what was going on and took off with Pepi behind me. Daddy had to chase us up and down the house. He caught me first. I squirmed out of his grip but he caught me again before I could get away. Pepi gave him a tougher run, hiding in the basement three times! We were late at the vet by five minutes. Pepi made Daddy move so much he was sweating and didn't need his coat despite it being cold outside.
The good news is that I'm in good health. My weight stayed the same at 7# 7oz. I got felt up and down. I didn't like it and protested. There's some tarter on my teeth we may have to address in a year or so, but that can wait. The bad news is that I have a yeast infection in my left ear. It took about a dozen ear swabs to get it all out. It feels a little better now that all that handling is over. I have to get medicine in it twice a day for two weeks!!
I protested on the way home too. I've settled down now and finishing the rest of the canned food. Thank catness this only happens once a year.

Just wanted to give out a little update. Things are the same here. Daddy's been playing "get the ball" with me more now that I found my favorite ball. This morning Daddy said, "If you find your ball I'll play with you." then a few minutes later I pushed the ball down the stairs and Daddy kept his word. I'm a smart kitty. I could tell when he was doing a fake throw to see if I'd chase after the ball when it's not there. What does he think I am, a dog?
The site that puts music on my page stopped so Daddy had to take it off. Not many people really like it when the music starts automatically anyway. We're all OK here. Thank catness we're not outside. It looks really cold out there. Stay warm everyone!
