Arrival Story: A guy in the neighborhood adopted her from the Aurora Animal Shelter. He had previously adopted another kitten that he called Wilbur. Wilbur promptly escaped through a torn window screen and was eaten by a coyote, so he got Wilma. One day, when Wilma was about 6 months old, he showed up at our front door. I could see Wilma out in his truck. "I've got to get rid of that cat", he said. "She bit my little girl". "What did your little girl do to the cat?", I asked. By this time, I was holding little Wilma and she was purring. This was a real vicious cat I was thinking. "You know, you really shouldn't adopt little animals to entertain a 3 year old child because they will defend themselves when the child mauls them". He said he guessed he would have to take the cat back to the pound. I thought 'sure and tell them that she bit a child, she's dead meat'. I took Wilma and made her a part of our family. I talked to the director at the animal shelter and requested that they put a 'no adopt' on the neighbor.
