He was in a pet shop. I bought him because I thought he was such an ugly kitten that nobody would want him. They even gave me a discount to get rid of him. The ugly kitten blossomed into quite a handsome cat. He was always a very shy boy. Most of the time, when you reached down to pet him, he would scoot away. One day, in his later years, he started coming up and putting his paws on my lap and wanting to be petted. I said, "does this mean I'm going to lose you? " Sure enough, not long thereafter, I lost him. They say that cats don't anticipate death, but his behavior certainly makes me wonder.
