Arrival Story:
My sister got this cat when she was living out of home with a boyfriend. The boyfriend and her broke up and my sister came to live here, bringing Melma who was still very young (not grown up yet). Lisa moved out and got married, but the cat stayed behind cause this place is her home. I look after her now.

In 1992 Melma got hit by a car. The back wheel seemed to roll over her back end. Her hip was broken, but she ran from the road, into the tool shed. We saw it happen and rushed her to the vet. The vets didn't think she'd pull through, but she did. She has pidgeon-toed back feet now, but she's just as active as any other cat. Then, in 2001, it became clear that little sores on her nose and ears weren't just sores. They weren't going away. We took her to the vets and they said that they were most likely skin cancer (from the sun) and that the cat needed to have her nose and ears cut off. This is why she has no nose or ear tips. We call her our 'Panda' now, cause she's black and white and her ears are all round. She's funny looking, but she's the sweetest, loveliest, most adorable cat you could ever meet. ETA: In 2010, Melma finally passed away. She'd had a few different problems, her digestive system was shutting down (I had to help her poo) and in the end, her kidneys failed her. Her family took her to the vet, and as she was put to sleep, I sang her to her rest. I sang "Pie Jesu". She was 20 years old. She was put to rest in a lovingly decorated coffin, with her favourite things in the world: Donuts, party blowers, paper balls and flowers. May she forever be in sunshine and springtime. My brother Scotty named his rock band Melma. It still rocks on in her memory.
