Well...it appears as though we have a new member in our family. We don't know what her name is yet. She's about 3 years old and she is a very beautiful black cat. We've seen her around outside for about 2.5 years. She's George's and Nikolaus's mama.
About 3 months ago she had three more babies. When the babies were about 5 weeks old,she brought them here to eat. Mom had fixed up the doghouse a while back and put it right out front so she could see kitties come and go and so that they had a safe place to eat and warm blankets to snuggle on if they wanted. Every day mama cat would bring the babies to eat. My Mom was sad. There was a little gray kitten with white socks and 2 little black kittens...one with a little white mustache and the other with a small white spot on it's chest. The gray kitten and the black one with the white on it's chest were the spitting images of our beloved Toby J and Alex P. (May they both R.I.P.) Mom noticed that gray kitten had a very sore eye and somehow she managed to catch him in her warm winter hat and brought him in. She cleaned up his little face and put medicine in his eye and then took him back out to his mama and siblings. A couple of days later his eyes were nice and clear and he was well.
Anyway...within a few weeks the 3 babies were gone. Mom found a large pool of blood on the blanket out in the doghouse. At some point while Mom was away a Tom cat (or somebody) had shown up and at least one of the babies had been killed. Mom doesn't know which one because all 3 babies were gone. Mama cat has some pretty obvious scars on her face, but nothing that could have caused the blood that Mom found. We all felt so sad.
Two weeks later mama cat came back. She was alone. Mom was hoping that she had moved the babies to another location to keep the survivors safer...but mama cat never left again. She stayed in the doghouse and greeted Mom every day and night with purrs and rubs when Mom went out to feed her. Even though mama cat kept trying to come inside, she stayed outside for three more weeks because Mom didn't know if there were any babies stashed somewhere else. Finally,Mom held open the door and mama cat came half way inside and was greeted by George with a head bump and kisses. Soon Nik came over and greeted her too. They were reunited with their mama and they all remembered each other. It was sweet. But mama cat is being confined to Dutch's big crate. Ya see, she's not spay yet and George and Nik aren't neutered yet either. As it turns out lil black mama cat is having tummy troubles so it's better that she stay in the dog crate with her own litter box and stuff until she is spay. Mom took her to the vet this morning so that Dr. Kevin could examine her and treat her tummy issues. She weighed in at 8.2 lbs. She'll stay confined to the crate until we're sure that she's healthy enough for her spay and to recover after her surgery. Then she can come out and join the rest of us. She seems very content. She doesn't cry or anything and Mom makes sure to give her lots of love. Lil black cat has a huge purr.
So here we are...hopefully we have saved a life and will be giving her a good home where she is inside and not out having babies anymore. That's no kind of life for any cat to have to live.
And with that I'll leave you all with this: Merry Christmas,Happy New Year, and please do all that you can for those in need. Ya never know whose life you may save or at least make better.

Here I sit writing in my diary thingy. I was doing just peachy and some goofy ad about using power tools and whatnot comes on and deletes all that I had written.. ( antivirus scan is now being run.) Seriously. I'm a cat. I'm not about to play with drills and jigsaws!!!
So...I was saying that I feel like a bozo for not posting Happy Gotcha Day to our doggy Dutch. Sorry 'bout that big boy.
Then I was in the middle of writing an open letter to Mother Nature. I'm not sure just what she's up to,but I'm pretty sure that she needs a new calendar. As I write this,it's -16 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Ummm...that stuff doesn't normally happen until January around here! Color me unamused. (I'm a black cat so everybody just put away your crayons and markers. I'm pretty darn good lookin' if I do say so myself.)
Oh yeah,my Mom isn't the least bit happy about this goofy cold weather either. It makes her car battery go blahhhhhh. Which means that she has to get out the jumper cables and jump start that old girl. Dumb battery is just beginning it's second winter and it's a huge hassle...especially since it's a 5 year battery!!!! Had the car at our mechanic last week and he said that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the car,but the parts place that sold Mom the battery says that there is nothing wrong with the battery. *ahem* I should go bite that guy 'cuz I'm pretty sure that he's full of you know what.
Hmmm...what else?...Oh! Yeah! Thanksgiving was awesome! Smoked turkey and all the fixins'. We all had a few bites and ummm nom nom nom nom nom nom. Totally delicious! My Mom is a great cook. I was looking forward to more of Mom's cooking on Christmas, but I guess she's going to my Aunt Deb's. Bummer!
And then...weather permitting...Mom is going back to the specialists in Omaha on the 30th. It's a lonnnnnng drive from here to there. We all get sad when our Mom is away, but we need her to be feeling better.
Oh boy,I'm babbling again. I should sign off for now. Mom is going to go outside and probably say a bunch of swear words at the cold and at that stupid battery in her car.
Peace out girl scout,

..to Charlie! Today our silly calico girl is 12 yrs old. However, she doesn't give a hoot. Her kids Ben,Pete,& Abby all gave her loves and Charlie head slapped them. Their little feelings were hurt by their mama smacking them. I guess Charlie's age is catching up with her.
It's hard to believe that Charlie is 12 already. Time sure flies. No birthday party. Charlie isn't into the whole party thing. Oh well. To each his/her own I guess.
It's been a pretty quiet day here today. We're just hanging out chillin' and taking it easy. ( cuz a cat's life is so hard! lol)
*yawnnnnnnn* I feel the need for yet another nap,but not until we feed our faces.
Oh boy! Mom's filling our bowls...I have to go or else everybody else will hog the food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday sweet Charlie. We love you so much pretty girl.
Peace out girl scout,
