Ok...so...some of us have been feeling a bit under the weather. It's a poo issue.Ernie,Misky,Cole,Morgan, and I have been feeling yucky. However, our Mom is a total lab geek and knows what is causing it. She's a SERIOUS lab geek. I'm talkin' microscope and other lab things IN THE HOUSE sorta lab geek! Anyway....Mom has been giving us all antibiotic injections and we have responded well to treatment except for Misky.Mom explained things to me and it is rather fascinating. After Mom did her lab. stuff with us she has concluded that the problem is caused by Clostridium. Apparently there are a number of different strains of that stuff...there was talk of endospores, exospores, toxins, obligate anaerobes, aerobes, how you can tell which strain it is according to where the spores are located on the bacteria, culture and sensitivity testing,PCR testing....makes my head spin.
The Misky situation: Misky was born FeLv positive to FeLv pos. parents. However,Mom adopted Misky when she was two yrs old and her kittens were 4 weeks old. Misky is now 14.5 yrs old and the "kittens" just turned 12. Not very common for a FeLv cat to get that old so that says a lot about Mom's knowledge and skills. Misky's Clostridium has grown rather resistant to a couple of common treatments so Mom assures us that in the morning she will head out to the clinic to get different meds for Misky.Even tho Misky has tested negative for FeLv for quite some time(apparently the treatment that Mom had her on for a number of years got Misky to seroconvert to negative FeLv status)One does have to take into consideration Misky's advanced age and the fact that this latest bout with Clostridium reared it's ugly head shortly after the passing of Misky's daughter Slick.(No,the virus didn't take our sweet Slick. She had a massive stroke.)Misky hasn't been herself since Slick passed and is obviously still stressed enough that she has off and on tummy problems and has been rather quiet for the last year. Some people say that Misky is stressed because she lives in a multi-cat house, but we think that they are full of beans! Misky gets along great with everybody. Not even the mean old Boopinator hassles Misk. Granted,it is true that a possible malignancy can't be ruled out at this stage of the game, but Mom and the Dr. both say that it doesn't appear that that is the case.(I sure hope not)Regardless, when Misky's time to cross the rainbow bridge comes, she will let Mom know and Mom will do the right thing....
Whoosh I'm babbling on. I'm tired, but can't sleep. There is some sort of rowdy foolishness going on next door and Dutch,Abby,Ben,Pete,Lily,& Wee are totally hogging the bed and I don't think that I can squeeze in there right now.
On a humorous note: We had kids come tick-or-treating tonight and they told Mom that they thought that the black cat decoration in the window looked sooooo real and was wayyy cool. *snicker* I was the "decoration" and I was just looking out the window to see who was knocking on the door!
Ok I'm going to ask those goofballs on the bed to slide over so that I can try to get in some snuggly sleep time.
Type at ya later.
xxxooo,
THE Jack Rooney (Who also doubles as a Halloween decoration...)
