Arrival Story: From a family of Brooklyn street cats; Mean crazy little kitten out to kill, but very smart, that's why we named him Monster. Now he is mellow and affectionate, it only took 12 years of love and patience.

Bio: Smartest cat ever! ^..^
Monster had always been very strong and healthy but in 2002 he collapsed while running down the stairs. We immediately took him in to the vet where he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The cardiologist prescribed Atenalol, a quarter pill a day, and this has succeeded remarkably well in shrinking his heart but has also had the added (and unexpected) benefit of making him a much calmer and more relaxed cat. I used to joke around that he was one cat who needed some Prozac and I guess that I was at least partially right.
He hates taking his medicine but never holds a grudge--after howling and wailing, and trying to shred me to bits with his razor sharp claws, he will run right back to me for warmth and affection. (I think on some level he knows that the medicine is good for him. He is, after all, the smartest cat ever.) ^..^
About a year ago Monster lost his hearing; the vet says that it is a normal part of the aging process and it hasn't seemed to have affected him too much. He does, however, seem to constantly feel that we are 'sneaking up' on him.

The Vet shaved me and gave me so many tests, but they have no idea what is wrong with me.
I hope I won't collapse again, and I am happy to be home for Christmas.
Thank you for all your caring letters. They mean so much!

I collapsed 3 times in the past few days. I am in the hospital right now wearing a heart monitor and missing my daddy and mommy. It is not fun spending Christmas with the Vet :(
I hope all you guys are healthy, and I wish you all a Merry Christmas! Purr Purr
