Arrival Story:
My husband, who is allergic to cats, decided he wanted his own cat after our beloved Samcat died. He found Anna at a pet store adoption center. Her "story" is that she and her litter mates had been abandoned in a box on somebody's porch. That person took her to a feral cat rescue organization.

Bio:
On her first day at home she set the pattern of her life by breaking a large barometer. She gets into everything, opens every cupboard door, climbs every shelf and cabinet. She also unrolls a whole roll of toilet paper from time to time. She's been known to get in the cupboard, climb up and tear open the bottom of her food bag and cause it to dribble dry food all over. Recently I moved to join my husband, after living apart for two years for job reasons - Anna had stayed with me because of my husband's travel schedule. She climbed into every box before and after I filled it, and again as it was unpacked. She "helped" me unload cupboard shelves and bookshelves, and generally made it clear that I was not to do anything without her there to supervise. Once we moved, she immediately returned her primary attention to my husband, who she adores. She will climb up on the bed with him when he naps and knead his body while she purrs - the only time she wants to be petted, and the only time she purrs. She lost the first of her nine lives shortly after we got her. I had noticed that she wasn't eating much, and seemed to be moping. I took her to the vet, who took xrays, and said maybe she had an infection, so he gave me antibiotics for her. Two days later she was much worse, so I took her back and he did exploratory surgery. He found a pistachio shell stuck at the opening to her small intestine. As soon as she recovered from the anesthesia, she ate ravenously, and has been fine ever since. Anna was much relieved when my son and his two cats moved out of our house in February, 2006. My son's male cat, Senar, was very dominant, and loved to chase and bite Anna. He had her so terrified that she was afraid to go from our bedroom to the kitchen unless a person accompanied her. She would run from him and leap up onto a high bookshelf above my computer, which he couldn't reach. Because of his size he couldn't jump well. One time Senar chased Anna across my keyboard and I swatted at him as he went by, but hit my finger on the protruding wall and broke it. She's a mischievous little minx, but we love her.

Purrthday Fun

April 1st 2008 10:41 am   [link to this entry]

Today's the day Meowmie and Daddy selected for our BIRTHDAYS, 'cause both me and my housemate, Everest, were "rescues." So we get lots of special attention, but, boy, does it ever take Meowmie time to figure out what I want. I decided today should be a kind of catnip day, but Meowmie had forgotten it was my BIRTHDAY, and she ignored my requests for so long that I had to make a real nuisance of myself. I meowed and meowed, at Daddy's office door, and all around Meowmie, and finally I jumped up on her desk and put my paw on her arm and set my claws in. That got her attention, and when she asked what I wanted, I made her follow me all the way to the other end of the house, and pawed the drawer where they keep the good stuff - the catnip! So she finally got it out, and let me eat right out of the catnip bowl. Everest, the big dummy, tried to get some, but I wouldn't let him. But he got high just smelling it, and started rolling over and over, like there was some on the rug. Silly Evcat! After we had our catnip highs and played and raced around, I took a nice long nap. Now I'm hoping Meowmie has a special treat for supper. But first I'm going to cruise around her on Catster for a bit and see if I can find one of my pals to give some zealies to. It's been too long since I visited.

December 7, 2006:

Guess what? For once I'm not the kitty in the doghouse. Mommy and Daddy set up the Christmas tree last weekend. And when they sat down to supper Everest climbed it and knocked it over. For once, they saw who did it, so he got in trouble. Now they have it tied up at the top, but Everest got in it again last night. Mommy found a broken branch, and she says she knows it was Everest, 'cause it had some of his grey and brown hair on the branch.

I'm being soooo good, Santa. Please, can I have one of those really great feather things - the one that flies like a real bird? And some catnip that I don't have to share with Everest? And a couple chances to get outside and not get chased down right away?

What's that Mommy? Well, unwrapping another three rolls of toilet paper shouldn't count. That's only good exercise, and wouldn't you rather I used my claws on that than on the couch?

New stuff

October 31st 2006 12:20 pm   [link to this entry]

I have had a purrty good week or so since joining Catster. I have several dozen new friends, and I have seen a whole lot of cute kitties. But I like the black and white ones best. So does Mommy.

I've also had lots of fun this past week. Let's see if I can remember all the things I did that annoyed Mommy. First off, I spilled the vase with sunflowers in it. I waited several days after they came home, until Mommy thought I would ignore them. Then I turned them over! Boy, was Daddy mad. He had told Mommy not to use that vase, 'cause it used to be his mother's, but Mommy said if she couldn't use it, or set it out because I might "get" it, we might as well get rid of it. Luckily it did not break.

Then I unrolled a roll of toilet paper, which I haven't done in several weeks. I enjoyed that so much that I went to another bathroom and did that roll also, and I've unrolled the main one three times this week. I also got into the food cupboard (It was Mommy's fault - there was no more dry food in my dish!), and opened a bag of lentils. Ptooie - they don't taste good. But they're fun to bat around the floor.

Mommy played with feathers with me a lot this week, but last Thursday I pulled my feathers off the stick, and Mommy couldn't fix them. She promised me some new feathers, and finally today she got them.

She got Evcat a surprise too. He likes wooly things, so she got him a little white lamb with catnip in the pocket. He wouldn't share it with me, even though I let him play with my new feathers after a while. So while he and Mommy were playing I went and got the plastic bag with the other catnip "teabag" out and tore it open and dribbled it on the new living room rug. I don't think Mommy liked that - she was shaking her head and saying "I should have known better than to leave it out." But Ev and I both had a lot of fun rolling in it before she vacuumed the rest up.

Now I need to take a nap. All that catnip made me crazy, and I need a rest.
