Arrival Story:
Huey was found after being hit by a car in SE Oregon, and treated by the Friends of Klamath Basin shelter there. He had a broken jaw, scrapes, and nerve damage which destroyed his eyesight. He was appx 10 years old. I fell in love with him and adopted him when his jaw was healed. He was very shy initially but now loves everyone.

Bio:
His ability to adjust to blindness at such an advanced age is a testimony to his Courage. It took him several months to walk without "hugging" the walls but now does very well. His tenacious spirit is undoubtedly what brought him through his ordeal. Dec. 2007 Update: On June 1st Huey was diagnosed as Diabetic, but he's met this challenge as bravely as everything else. He stabilized quickly on his twice daily insulin injections, and continues to enjoy his lazy life. He's up to 19# now so he's not missing any meals, even though his diet is prescription diet "DM" now. He's a real trooper who's not about to give up easily on his earthly life!

Everybody already knows me from my pictures on here, but I felt like writing today. I've had a lot of troubles lately, and Mom is still worried about me so I think she's writing this to kinda "vent".

This winter has been kind of tough on me - I've had a cough, my mouth felt funny, and I didn't do much but sleep. Yesterday Mom got worried enough to take me to the vet where a nice lady worked a lot with me ... I was asleep for quite awhile, I think, but I woke up feeling okay.

She told my mom I had sores in my mouth that might be a problem. She took pieces of them to know for sure. They haven't told Mom the results yet so she's worried -- but Mom's are like that, you know.

I think I feel lots better so I hope I get to stay around a lot longer time. I heard mom say that brother Lionel won't be here with us much longer ... Guess I'll have to be a little nicer to him for a change.

Happy New Year, and thanks for listening to us here.

Big Huey
