OH! That's the greatest! That's the best one! Mom, where have you been hiding this flavor of potato?!?!
I just got done attacking Mom while she was making dinner. She got a NEW TYPE of potato at the store, and I think it's the greatest flavor in all the world. Mom says "Whoa! Sparks are flying!" And she's barely exaggerating! I exhausted myself hopping around begging for more and more and more till Mom said "Enough! You'll barf! I really can't give you any more."
So they're called "Yukon Rose" potatoes. Mom says they have a yukon gold inside color and red skin. Both features are not usually my favorite things, I'm a russet man... But I can't explain it. I'm just in LOVE!
Who would have thought there were more potato flavors out there for me to try?!
This beats out my obsession with spinach lately. For a few weeks I'd been running over to the fridge door and chattering at humans to please please PLEASE get me a spinach leaf and break it up and hand feed me the little pieces... But that was yesterday and yesterday's gone. I am WAY more excited about these potatoes right now!

I know you're going to get mad at me but spinach is REALLY bad for kitties. As much as potatoes. My mom has researched this stuff and spinach is extremely high in calcium oxalates which causes crystals. There was a kitty on here that died because his mom fed him raw spinach. his name was Max and he had to be rushed to the vet where he was so blocked it caused all kinds of issues and his vet even told her it was the spinach. I really wish you wouldn't eat these things. Sorry, I just care about you. They are both not good for you and we're afraid something will happen. We won't bother you again about it.
My momma likes potatoes, but I think I'll stick to shrimpies!!
Sprarkman those taters sounds really good.
Grammy gonna look for them here.
Has a great day!
The tater is OK for you, Sparkman, as long as it's cooked. Cooking destroys the solanine, which is the bad stuff. Some of our really-high-end, only-for-special-occasions cat food even contains potatoes.
I never heard that spinach was bad for cats, so I Googled it and found this on the ASPCA site:
There is currently no solid data pertaining to feline ingestions of spinach, but we do know that it contains a small amount of calcium oxalates. While a leaf or two may not be an issue for a healthy adult cat, chronic and/or large ingestions of spinach could potentially cause crystal formation in the urinary tract. (And P.S., Because of this, spinach should be avoided completely in any cat with a history of urinary problems, including infections, crystaluria and kidney disease.)
So Finney has a valid point there. Maybe a little taste now and then, but don't go thinking that you're Popeye!
Actually, Mom says she totally appreciates your advice, Finney & Jasper! THANK YOU! Even if we can't follow all of it, we're grateful to hear them.
She says she can totally stop the spinach! That's good to know, thank you... But potatoes, she's not sure about... She can reduce my intake of them (HEY! MOM!)... She's been long battling with my weird pica issues, and raw potatoes have become my reward for being a good kitty & not eating her socks.
It's hard to explain, and believe me she's tried to even switch me onto the cooked potatoes... But she says the potatoes in my diet are a lot safer for me than another stomach surgery. And since they're the only thing I really will eat as a reward for making it through the day without eating fabric, she's willing to only feed me potatoes that are fresh, peeled, and closely inspected for any green parts.
Now as to my online friends: Don't eat potatoes! You have to be part goat, like me, for them to even taste good. Thank you.
Hah! Yes, raw potato has got to be better for you than socks! And most of the solanine is in the skin anyway, so you're probably not getting much if Mom is peeling them.
I used to love romaine lettuce and Indian curry (not together), and one of Mom's long-ago kitties loved cantaloupe and honeydew melon.
My Mom grew up with a cantaloupe loving cat! She says she used to eat one end of a smiley slice, while he ate the other.
Given the choice between eating taters or eating socks, I would definitely choose the taters!
