Arrival Story:
Well... this is a long story actually. I got suckered big time. LOL !! I stopped in the other day at the shelter I volunteer for, and found out that they needed a little bit of help with a tiny kitten, and basically begged me to foster her. I wasn't sure about that, since I've got such major behavioral problems with Zoe but I also thought I could probably keep her in the spare room as long as wasn't for too long. She's a very pretty little thing, that's for sure. She's all white, short hair, with a diamond shaped dark gray spot on the very top of her head, and she has brilliant blue eyes, like a Husky. She's 12 weeks old, but is very small for her age.... probably due to a horrible case of coccidia worms she had when she was very young (the parasites stole whatever meager nutrition she got). She was found at a greasy dirty warehouse by some workers, and she had been covered in motor oil. They took her to the shelter and she was so terrified, the poor thing. She wasn't used to people and she was so scared. They had to wash off the motor oil, which further terrified her, as you can imagine. She finally started to come around and be friendly, but the shelter is so full of scary noises that they were afraid she'd never be properly socialized if she stayed there. They gave her to a foster family for about a week, but that family was also very noisy.... three cats, three big dogs, a squawky bird, and 4 kids! She cowered under their computer desk the whole time. So then, .... in I walk (oddly enough, just to bring the shelter workers some doughnuts) .... and they asked me if I would take her for a short while to show her the peaceful side of life before they put her up for adoption. She's very pretty... dainty and delicate.... and she purrs constantly when you pick her up. I got her set up in the room with all the toys and scratching post and she came around to playing after about a half hour. She settled in nicely, and of course.... my nine month old fireball of a kitten, Chester, was incessantly knocking on the door the WHOLE time. The other two lady kitties in the house, Zoe and Licorice, seem to be pretty unhappy about the newcomer, but are slowly coming around. But then there's Chester.... who has showed that he's every bit the shining Superstar Prince of a kitty I always knew he was!! The shelter asked me if at possible, that I give the kitten (whom I've decided to call Diamond) some interaction with Chester, if I thought he'd do well with her. I had actually been considering getting him a friend, since he's so desperate to play with another kitty and the two Grand Dams of the house just aren't cooperating (well, to be fair, they are 14 and 16... they just want to be left alone!). I thought it would be a good test for him to see how he reacts with another kitty. So... I opened the door and he came bouncing in like a bat out of hell. He was SO excited, it was hilarious!!!! He approached her, ears forward, tail down... very friendly. Diamond, on the other hand FREAKED out, ... puffed up sideways like a halloween cat and started hissing and growling like a banshee. Poor Chester got so scared he didn't know what to do!! He ran and hid behind me and looked around at her, amazed. he finally came out, and just sat very still staring at her, while she continued this crazy little war dance all around him. Not once did he hiss back, or growl, or even lay his ears flat. He was simply fascinated by her.... and really wanted to play. This continued for about a half hour.... him calmly sitting or laying in various parts of the room, occasionally approaching her gently, and her.... running around, growling, hissing... having a literal hissy fit. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen! Chester is seriously about 4 times her size. He looks enormous next to her. He wanted to play so badly he could barely stand it, and yet he was being such a gentle, loving boy, it was making me very proud. But she was just not having any of it. Very strange behavior from a kitten her age. But... sealed my decision to get poor lonely Chester a friend to play with. I initially decided that I didn't want to keep her, and truly just be a foster for her for awhile until she could be okay to go up for adoption. I originally wanted a boy kitten, (and a black one at that) to be a brother for Chester. But... after only a few days, it was obvious to me that Diamond was truly a sweet and remarkable little girl, and Chester had fallen madly in love with her. My decision to keep her was cemented when I saw her and Chester cuddled together sleeping on my bed. Chester looked up at me and purred like crazy and I knew then and there I couldn't give her up! I later also found out from the shelter that I truly saved her life! If I had not agreed to take her as a foster kitten, she was scheduled to be euthinized due to her extremely fearful and skittish behavior. Thank God I walked into the shelter that day and made the life-saving decision to bring her home!!

Bio:
Diamond is such a little sweetie! Due to her very rough start in life, she is still extremely skittish and is terrified of anyone other than me. But, with me, she is a real sweetheart... purring all the time and sleeping on my chest at night. She has the most amazing blue eyes and you can see right into her little soul through them. I'm hoping that over time, she will learn to trust enough not to be so scared all the time, but even if she remains skittish all her life, I still will love her no matter what!
