Arrival Story: There were three kittens at the breeder, it was a difficult decision to choose just one kitten because they all are sweet and have their personality. I especially like Nikko because he approached us and readily accepted our rubs on his shoulder and he is very muscular for a kitty. But, since our plan is to get a kitten, we finally settle for a cream colored kitten, Niwa. However, Nikko was delivered to our house wide-eyed, 5 days by the same local breeder whom we bought our first kitten (Niwa) from. Niwa was crying every nite since he arrived at our house, we had to sleep with him in his room so that he would not cry and wake up the neighbourhood. Nikko's mission at that time was as a coax and companion for Niwa. As soon as the brothers unite, they become inseparable, and for us there is no more sleepless nites. From that day onwards, we decided that Nikko should not leave our home. Nikko is a saviour, he rocks!
Bio: Nikko is courageous and brave, he's first to inspect new things in the house. He used to zip, leap, jump, spring around the house before he turnt one year old. Nowadays, he prefers to sit around and ponder - when is my next BIG meal? We think he misses his old brand of food (Avoderm), and will buy it back for him soon. Still, he springs into attack whenever he spots a fly and are so impressed with this innate capability of his. We think that he has some resemblance with Garfield - fat and lazy and orange; and has since he has an inspiration be the next Mr Beautiful Cat, he has to spring back to life and his regular exercise soon!
2 months after his first birthday, he became mellow. We had dismissed that the behaviorial change is due to he is a grown up and no longer a kitten. Boy, we are wrong. During a visit to the vet for a vaccine boaster, we were told to bring him to an animal hospital for a suspected liver disease. After a series of tests at the animal hospital, we were given the most dreaded piece of news that a cat owner ever wanted to hear! Nikko is tested FIP positive, it was the first time we heard about FIP, but given the look on the vet's face, we knew that it's not good. FIP is an incurable fatal infection. He projected that Nikko had a few more weeks left.
Why must such a thing happen to the sweetest cat on earth? We couldn't believe it. We wanted to know if Nikko was suffering. Vet said no. A week later, Nikko's eyes started to bleed, and vet said it would go away. Another week later, Nikko's eyes stopped bleeding, but he longer has a good vision. Relying on his whiskers and familiarity of our surroundings, he still managed walk around without bumping into stuff in the house. We shift things around, to make room for him. Surprisingly, the FIP seems to go into remission for a few more weeks after that. Not before long, FIP returns and it turnt brutal and dreadful rapidly, during this time, it was a pain for us, while we consider to put him to sleep. Whenever we caresses him, he will wag his tail so sweetly, or raise his rear, and he would acknowledge when his name is called. We did not have time to decide and in a couple of days Nikko has left us to the rainbow bridge. We know he is in a better place now, and he's in our hearts. Nikko you'll be dearly missed.
