Arrival Story:
When I was on vacation in July 2006 I fell in love with a stray cat in Aruba. After leaving I had some people search for her, hoping someone could bring her to me in the US, but they couldn't find her (some other people were thinking of taking her home, so I think and hope this happened). But I decided that I should adopt a cat. So we went on petfinder and looked until we saw a profile for Emma. We wanted to give an older cat a chance, and we wanted one that was laid-back and preferably declawed (I would never declaw a cat myself, but have no problems adopting one that has already been declawed). Emma fit the bill perfectly, so we took a ride to get her and have been loving her ever since.

Before we adopted Emma she lived with a foster mother for nine months. Her foster mother found her breaking into trash cans at a nearby farm, looking for food. It seems that Emma's original owners abandoned her outdoors to fend for herself--after declawing her! :( Emma's foster mother rescued her, and she was adopted by an older woman. However, that woman got sick and had to return Emma, and some months later, we adopted her.

Cat Rescue:
If you are in the Washington, DC area and want to adopt a cat (or dog), please visit www.homewardtrails.org. If you are in Southern Maryland and Homeward Trails does not have a match, consider the pets at www.animalrelieffund.org. Both are great rescue groups. If neither of those works for you, do a search on www.petfinder.com.
