Yesterday I got my new sister!!!! She is smaller than me. Mama and Daddy say she is a maltese. Her name is Lady Gatzby and she weighs 8 pounds. That makes me the BIG brother even though I am only 2---ha ha!!! They say she is almost 7 years old and that they rescued her.....rescued from where, I wonder???????
To be truthful, my "mama Jen", who is really my sister, I think.....is Gatzby's mama. She is is grown up now although she still lives with us (I hope FOREVER! ), and she decided it was time for her to have her very own doggie. I don't understand why, because I certainly give enough love to go around. But anyhow, I am trying my very best to be Gatsby's good friend. So far, though, she is kind of treating me like I am not here. Mama calls it "aloof". Oh, she lets me sniff her and even paw her, but instead of chasing me and rolling all over with me, she just walks away. I think she is broken that way. Mama says I need to give her some time to "warm up" to me. She came from a home where we are pretty sure she was the only doggie. Hey, I was an "only" doggie too, but I know how to play with the best of them! Daddy says maybe Gatsby was never socialized with other doggies like I was.
I will give her this....she is awfully cute! Hopefully I will win her over. I am a very, very good dog and I can make this work. Mama says I will always be her favorite, so that makes me feel good!
Gatzby likes to kiss Mama, Jen, and Daddy a lot. This makes me a little jealous because she does not like to kiss me yet! I wonder if she used to live with cats because one of her favorite things to do is to climb up on someone who is sitting on a sofa, get up on the top of the sofa back, and curl up around the back of that person's neck. Then she purrs!! Mama says she wonders if that is why she is "aloof" too. It's a theory.
Okay, so I will be optimistic. After all, she has only been here two days. Positive thinking.......We will be best friends, we will be best friends......

Well, 2006 was a good year---I stayed happy and healty, so what's not to be glad about?
Here are some things I remember about last year:
On January 1st , we had a great big party for my grandma! It was her birthday and she turned 80. Lots of people came that I had never met before and it was such fun!
One day later in January Mama took me for a walk outside. It had been raining and it changed over to snow, and it was slippery. I was having a great time frolicking in the snow when all of a sudden my leash became very loose. I turned around and Mama was on the sidewalk and she looked scared! She had fallen and lost hold of the leash. She called to me and I came running, but then I realized she was hurt. She managed to get up after a few minutes and we made it back home, but I knew something was wrong and I tried to make it better by staying right next to her and giving her kisses. She called Daddy and he took her to something called the ER. It turned out she broke her knee and I knew I needed to take very good care of her. I was a very good dog most of the time while her knee healed; I knew she could not chase after me like usual. It took a long time but her knee got all better and now we walk all over the place together again----yay!!!!
I realized this past summer that I do not feel very good when it is real hot outside. I sleep a lot and do not feel much like eating or going for walks. I am glad that I do not live in an area that is hot all the time. Cooler is better.
At the end of summer, we went to Door County WI a lot and went inside lots of other peoples' houses for some reason. It turns out that we were looking for a vacation home---and now I have TWO homes! The new one is smalller and very cozy, and I love the forest outside our new house and all the interesting smells there. It takes a long time in the car to get there, but I snooze a lot in my comfy car seat and it goes by pretty fast. Plus Mama and Daddy stop whenever I need to stretch my legs or pee. This past weekend I was there, sitting by the patio door looking out onto the deck, and I saw a strange doggy come out of the woods. Mama said it is called a fox. I barked and growled at it, and it went away. Got to defend my turf. My favorite thing to do there is sleeping on the big pillow (which I got for my second birthday) in front of the fireplace.
I got lots of good stuff for Christmas; I guess I must have been a very good boy last year. Santa brought me a new winter coat, a new doggy bed with my name embroidered on it, and lots and lots of greenies, my all-time favorite treat! Also I got some toys and a couple of doggy ornamants for the Christmas tree. I LOVE Christmas; Mama and Daddy even let me tear some of the paper off my gifts, and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE PAPER!!!!
I got my first ever ear infection in December, and it was a doozy. It hurt a lot and the first medicine the vet gave me for my ear made it even worse; Mama took me back to the vet and oh boy I was miserable. The vet said I had a reaction to the meds, and that I was the first doggy she ever saw to get a reaction to it. But that's me, I always go against the grain when I get something wrong with me. So I am glad I am a prety healthy guy. Anyhow I just went back a couple of days ago and the vet said my ear is much, much better. It does not hurt anymore so I do not give Mama a hard time with the drops now. One more day and I will be done with them and I will be glad to be all better. No more ear infections for me if I have anything to say about it!
I wonder what 2007 will bring for me....I can hardly wait to find out!!!

A few weeks ago I got to take a very long ride in the car with Dad and Mama. We went to a place called Michigan, where I had never been before.
We stayed at the house (they called it a B&B INN) that specialized in dogs that travel with their people. It was very nice the first day, but then the man who runs the place started acting weird. He had all sorts of crazy rules like the one that said that I could never, ever be left alone in the room, even if I was asleep in my crate. My parents took me with them all day long and we had a great time together, but in the evening I was very tired and just wanted to sleep when they wanted to go someplace to eat a quick dinner. The man said he had a "dog sitter" who would stay with me, but when Mama asked him to call her, he told her the sitter was out of town! So they were not very happy and I felt sad because they were hungry! One night when we were the only guests in the inn, they asked the man nicely if they could leave me asleep in my crate for just an hour so they could go eat, and he grudgingly said okay. When they got back, he said to them, "I'm sorry but I had to KILL your dog!"
Mama asked him if there had been a problem, and he said no, I had not barked at all. Mama and Daddy were really mad that he said that and they were very relieved to find me peacefully asleep in my crate, as they had left me.
There were other weird things that went on there, too. WE are not going to go back there again.
I did go to some towns that were very dog friendly, however. If you ever go to South Haven or Saugatuck, the people who run the stores are VERY welcoming to well-behaved dogs. (Just be sure you behave!) My favorite store was the shoe store---oh, the heavenly aromas!!! We also ate at some very nice outdoor cafes, one was right on the waterfront.
I really LOVE to travel. If you do, let me know about dog-friendly places you have visited. I am going to Door County WI in a couple of weeks. I have been there before and it is my favorite place! We are staying at another B&B inn, but I have been there before and the lady who runs it is VERY NICE! She has two big doggies herself. And the rooms are really nice and homey, and they all have their own doors to the outside, in case you have to "GO" in the middle of the night.
Speaking of "going", nature calls so I need to alert my Mom. Bye for now!
