Sab's Mama here;
I can't believe it. It's been 1o years since I made arrangements with my friend to pick up her darkest, last orange and white tabby kitten that she'd set aside for me after her two orange cats unexpectedly had a litter.
I couldn't seem to coordinate a face to face time with her, so she drove the 45 minutes to her mom's house and put him in a box in the garage to wait for me while I drove over to her mom's to get him. He was peeking out of the box and looking around, meowing. He was so tiny that he fit in one hand; he was only 1.5 pounds! Curiosity got the best of him during our 15 minute car ride, and he peered out of his box and had begun considering getting out of the box by the time we got home.
I brought him upstairs to the apartment and put the box on my bed. I raced to grab my camera before I opened the box again, and snapped the photo of the first glimpse of Sab peering out of the box, only to come nose to nose with Mackenzie. No sooner had I snapped that photo than she began hissing at him and backed away. (I didn't know anything about waiting periods or keeping them separate or anything like that.)
He finally tiptoed out of the box and started slinking around, sniffing out everything he could find. I picked him up and carried him to the litter box so he'd know where to find him, and he promptly made it his. I then called Dr. David to set up his appointments for shots and his neuter. I put a blanket in the box for him, and while he always returned to the box to nap, he did spend some of his first night on the bed with me, with his little body squished against my face.
He was so silly cute when he was a kitten! Check out his photo album, if you haven't, to see some of the kitten photos I have hiding in there. I can't believe I have been so richly blessed with him for 10 entire years now. It's been a tough 10 years, Baby Boy, and I couldn't have survived them without you!
