Thank you so much for all the love and support for my grandma. She is stable and coming home.
Mommy asked me to give you an update on everything. For those of you who are not aware of the recent and sudden change in grandma’s health, here is a little recap: Grandma has been feeling so well since getting steroid injections a month ago for her pain, she really did not notice the change in herself until a little over a week ago. She was "not feeling right." but was not able to come up with anything....so life went on as usual.
For the past week, grandma noticed some shortness of breath on minimal exertion....and feeling tired and somewhat dizzy. She told mommy about it, but did not feel it was bad and was resolving. Mommy and daddy were keeping a close eye on her. Mommy daddy and Grandma and Papa were involved in an injured mommy and baby duck rescue Sunday afternoon. Wow, that was a lot of physical exertion for all of them. After the duck rescue (they are all safe now), my grandma realized she could not catch her breath. After resting she was okay.
Monday she was okay, as she was not doing much. Tuesday, she was getting concerned and described her symptoms to mommy. Mommy immediately called the doctor and made an appt. They went to her doctor and she was sent to the ER. Grandma is a strong lady and really did not want to stay at the ER and tried to tell mommy she was okay and they could go home!!! She felt it was not that serious. Well for those of you who know mommy, she was not taking Grandma home until she was checked out…so they stayed and she was evaluated....to their surprise, she was found to have severe, multiple and large blood clots in both lungs. As they put it "too many to count." She should not be with us now, but thankfully, she is. She had this similar type of episode in 2002 and the exact cause was never found so it was thought to be a result of a medicine she was taking for osteoporosis....well, guess that was not right!
Mommy has been staying at the hospital with her and they have yet to find where these clots are coming from. They have started a whole battery of tests and the results will be in within a week to 10 days. They are checking for genetic blood disorders and much more. If all these tests are negative, they will begin their search for the cause in other places.
As most of you know, pulmonary embolisms are usually fatal. Grandma has now survived them twice. We don't want a third time. Her lungs are still full of clots, but they are slowly being dissolved with medication.
She has been released on different blood thinners and is resting at home. Her kitties were so happy to see her. Sissy was also so upset and she didn’t know where her grandma was. Mommy and her parents live 6 blocks apart and Sissy stays with them when mommy and daddy work. CK was very confused with mommy being gone overnight, etc. We have a long road ahead of us...and will have to really make sure she remains stable as these clots continue to dissolve. The injection therapy at home is not going well and mommy and daddy are going over to assist this AM.
This has been a scary fast paced journey the past few days...and it is not over. Mommy tried to let a few of you know as you wouldn’t see me as often and she didn’t want you to worry. Also, we need all your support and power of the paw. Grandma and mommy are so close…closer than most know. They are best friends. My Grandma is strong, feeling well, and in good spirits. She is so strong....this episode only reaffirms for mommy again, where she finds her strength and tenacity....what a remarkable woman Grandma is…our rock....our inspiration.
Thanks for all the love and support. We will keep you updated with any news or changes.
Also, Daddy’s colonoscopy went well. He has gotten another clean bill of health. No cancer anywhere!! We are feeling so grateful. Please remember to take time to enjoy life and to tell those you love.....that you do love them...we never know what each day will bring.
Mommy will be going back to work, taking care of Grandma, etc….and you know her health is not the best so it will be hectic for a while.
Please know if we are not here as often, we are here in our hearts. We love and appreciation you all.
Sunshine hugs, Jazzi Sunshine Angel, CK and Sissy
