A Tail of Retirement in Florida

My beloved boy waited for us to get home Christmas night. I walked thru the house calling his name only to find him behind the futon. As I knelt to pet him I realized that he was in trouble. Serious respitory distress increasing as I tried to get him up. I realized that this was the last few minutes we would have. Touching him and telling him he was a good boy, that we loved him, as he took his last breath, took all I could do. The tears started falling as I felt him leave. I sat holding his head in one hand and his beatiful big paw in the other. My lovely loving boy had gone. He had had a good day, receiving pets, brushing and treats. When we left the house he had been sitting on the porch in one of his favorite places, where he could see into the living room as well as out to the yard.
I will look for you at the Rainbow Bridge Ernes. You were a wonderful love in my life at a time I needed it badly. Till then my friend, be free of pain, worry, and fear. You were loved and your memory will be cherished. Go in peace.

My people made a big clear place with hanging things and lots of birds. The birds spend hours jumping from the bushes to the feeders, just for my amusement. I have a special chair in front of the window to sit and plot means of bird catching. One of these days.........

There are wonderful intriguing smells behind the wall in my persons' napping room. I have learned that if I push on the wall hard enough with my head I can get one of my paws into the crack and pull the piece of wall open wide enough to go through. It is obviously a playroom, with shelves, and baskets, as well as fluttery hanging things to pull on. It is also a great place to nap, as it is quiet, full of nesting places and everybody makes happy noises when I come out again.

I well understand why Florida is a favored retirement spot. The glorious bug population provides all sorts of sport and amusement. Even though my person has someone spray nastiness in my house now and then I still manage to find a decent selection of play crawlies. A word to the wise however for those of you inexperienced in the art, they do not taste nearly as good as rodent.
