Arrival Story:
We found Kookie and his siblings in our backyard in March 2005 with their dead mother, a feral cat. My parents took in all three kittens despite our inexperience with cats and the difficulties of raising three babies that never got trained by their mother, and never even got fed mother's milk. When his siblings failed to make it, I decided to personally care for the one that got left behind-- an orange and white cat with no tail but a strong will to live. I spent several nights watching over the baby (who then slept beside me) and several amounts of cash bringing him to the vet when he looked like he was about to give up. He was choosy with his food and would not take formula milk, so I had to force feed him. He also hated vitamins, and didn't know how to move his bowel. Yes, I had to train him. After a few difficult weeks Kookie eventually stabilized and learned how to live. Though he is not as healthy as other cats, he manages well enough. My parents love him because he's always poised and proper, very much like a prince who feels safe in his own kingdom. Now, he's been upgraded-- he lives in my parents' bedroom, to the chagrin of my brother and the disappointment of Happy, the erstwhile favorite dog.
