The phrase of the weekend is "Thank you."
Thank you to all the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Thank you to everyone now serving in the armed forces.
Thank you to all our veterans.
And a special, personal, thank you to the volunteers who placed 56,000 flags on the graves at the National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne. This afternoon, Momma and Not-the-Momma went to put flowers on Grandpa's grave. The sight of all those flags was beautiful and moving. The cemetery has flat grave markers which make the grounds easier to maintain, but until she saw all those flags, Momma never grasped its magnitude. 56,000 veterans - Thank you to each and every one.

The Word of the Day is "Gunnysacking." I had no idea what this meant because cats don't do it - only stupid humans do it. So this definition comes from Wikipedia:
". . . the act of verbally bringing up past grievances (i.e. dumping the contents of the sack) during the process of trying to resolve some present problem in a relationship - 'gunnysacking or bringing in everything but the kitchen sink' . . . In which case, gunnysacking (as a tactic) has the dual effect of raising additional problems (in what is typically already a volatile situation) and presenting an obstacle to dealing with the current issues."
Last week's Phrase of the Week is still in effect.

The phrase of the week is "and the horse you rode in on."
I can't tell you exactly what it means, but I can tell you Momma has been saying it A LOT this week. I don't think it has anything to do with actual horses, but I'm pretty sure it involves female dogs.

It was one year ago today that I unexpectedly made my journey to the Bridge. I had kidney disease, but then I went into heart failure. Momma and Not-the-Momma decided that I'd fought long enough and rather than see me suffer, they helped ease my crossing.
Today also would have been Grandpa's 87th birthday. He passed away in December. Momma took the day off of work to go leave flowers on his grave. Rufus is going to go with her and I'm going to spend the day with Not-the-Momma.
My Rainbow Bridge party will be tonight. All of our angel friends are invited. No presents are necessary - your friendship is gift enough.

What would I do without Catster? I know what I WOULDN'T do - I wouldn't celebrate any more birthdays since only my Catster friends seem to remember me!
When Momma logged on to her email tonight and saw all the rosies I got, she thought maybe I was DDP. A DDP? How could I be a DDP when she never writes for me?
Once she figured out that it was my birthday, she called Not-the-Momma to see if he had remembered. He hadn't either. I suppose it would be too much to expect them to remember my 3 month Bridge anniversary last week AND my birthday this week. Momma tried to tell me that the days are all the same now without me there to make them special. I don't know if I believe her, but it's nice to hear it.
Anyway, Rufus says the first birthday at the Bridge is always the hardest. Easy for him to say - he went to the Bridge 3-4 months AFTER his birthday - not before.
I would have been 15 today. Momma changed the year of my birth on Catster so it would say I'm still 14. I'm forever 14, just like Rufus will always be 11.
Even though my humans can't remember what day of the week it is, I know they haven't really forgotten me. Not-the-Momma says he doesn't miss having a cat but he misses me. (I think 2 weeks of putting up with Briana was enough to convince him that he's not ready for another cat.)
Well, I think I've said enough for now. Thanks to all my friends who helped me celebrate my first birthday at the Bridge.

It's been exactly one month since I went to the Bridge and Momma's JUST getting around to remembering it tonight. It's been the 19th all day. She even had to write it down a couple of times this morning at work, but did she remember the significance of the date? NO!
For years after Rufus crossed, she remembered every 17th of the month, but I'm gone one month and I'm already forgotten. I see how it is.
If you're looking for me, I'll be drowning my sorrows in catnip ale at Ye Olde Bridge Tavern.

Wow, this is great. Thanks, Diary Gal, for making me a DDP.
Thanks to Alfie and Lumi for making cool pictures for me. Thanks to everyone for the prezzies, rosies, comments, and pmails.
*hehehe* Hamlet is not too happy about being the subject of my most recent diary entry. So I left it up all day to embarrass him even more. MOL!

Bonus word:
pawbeat (n.) - the sound of a paw striking a hard surface, like the kitchen floor.
