Tortoiseshell Tabby

Being naughty, scheming

Good (us) triumphing over evil (her)

Favorite Toy:
Live insects that she can torture endlessly

Favorite Nap Spot:
A warm lap or under the covers with us if it's a cold night

Favorite Food:
We suspect she's a fruit bat in disguise because she loves canteloupe, watermelon & strawberries.

Who needs an alarm clock when you have The Cri-KAHT!?! If one of us doesn't wake up early enough in the morning to satisfy her need for a drink out of the bathroom sink, she will paw at my or my husband's arm. If that doesn't work, she bites my septum!

Arrival Story:
We were living in a bad part of New Orleans where there were tons of stray cats and dogs. At the time, we only had one cat, Elvis, so I was really confused when my husband came running through the back door yelling, "Cats! Cats! We've got cats!" At first, I thought he meant Elvis had gotten outside, but then I realized he had said cats -- plural! I followed him outside and there were the two cutest little kittens I've ever seen in our neighbor's sideyard. My husband had surprised the mama cat and she had left behind her two babies, who the vet estimated to be about 4 weeks old because their eyes had just opened. I warned my husband to be careful about picking them up since they were feral. He picked up Cricket first -- who had big green eyes and was watching him the whole time -- and she made this tiny hiss sound that was way too cute to be scary! Then he picked up her brother, Bruiser, who was already twice her size and continues to be, even as adults! We didn't think we would keep them, but it proved impossible to resist their charms.

We call Cricket "The Devil" and "Evil Katten" but of course, we love her dearly despite -- or perhaps because of -- all her naughty antics. She is very intelligent and beautiful and she absolutely knows it! Modesty is not in her vocabulary. :) She is amazingly fearless and gets along well with everybody from dogs to toddlers. I've never had a cat who makes so much eye contact, even with strangers. She can be very moody and has plenty of attitude for the entire household, which of course revolves around her. Even our dogs (the largest being 80 lbs) recognizes that she is in charge. She loves drinks from the bathroom or kitchen faucets and she insists on sticking her entire head under the water to get a drink. We call her "Lil' Poindexter" because the fur on top of her head sticks up like that musician Buster Poindexter. She loves her katten brother, Bruiser Bear, and they are very entertaining with their mock fights (lots of air clawing!). She also adores our Rhodesian ridgeback/pit bull mix, Shelby Elizabeth, as you can see in one of the photos. Our lives would be really boring without Cricket's company!
