For nearly 10 months in 2002 and early 2003, a PETA investigator went undercover at an Iams contract testing laboratory, where a dark, sordid secret was discovered beneath the the dog- and cat-food manufacturer’s wholesome image. Our investigator found dogs who had gone crazy from intense confinement in barren steel cages and cement cells, dogs who had been left on a filthy paint-chipped floor after chunks of muscle had been hacked from their thighs, dogs who had been surgically debarked, and horribly sick dogs and cats who were languishing in their cages, neglected and left to suffer without veterinary care.

Here are some animals they saw that were harmed:
Suffering from acute hair loss and a mammary tumor, Menu Foods dog HJDMFT seeks the attention of our investigator. HJDMFT, who was killed on September 26, 2002, remained untreated in her cage for 42 days prior to death despite the fact that her condition had steadily worsened (i.e., there was increased hair loss, the tumor was hot to the touch, she cried when handled, etc.)
On July 9, 2002, a Menu Foods dog was found in her cage with large, swollen, open wounds on both her hind legs. The wounds, which were the result of her having gotten stuck in the flooring of her cage, were so severe that the bone on one leg was exposed. The wounds were washed and shaved and the dog was placed back in her cage, but she received no painkillers.

On July 15, 2002, the same dog still in pain and her wounds looking worse than they did the week before, it was decided that she would be killed. Her fate amused many of the laboratory personnel who joked that since she was going to be killed, they might as well make some money off her by selling her cerebral spinal fluid and bile to a bioreclamation firm.

Mommy made me and my sibling we won't buy while cats and dogs die pictures. Were going to put them on our page soon. We also made ones without names on them that we'll display on my page. With the blank name one I encourage everyone to write there name on it and put it on there page. I also encourage everyone to stop buying Iams food!

Meeting The Men of The House........ (AKA, Willie and Ajax!)

Mommy had just bought me and we were driving home. Sooner or later, we pulled up into a drive way. We went inside. I sniffed around, and liked what I saw! It was like a billion times bigger than the cage I had been in. Before I knew it, I was intreduced to the boys, first it was Willie, he hissed, and hissed. I was terrified, I groaned with my throat, and I ran away. Then it was Ajax, I was also terrified, now I don't no why though. Ajax just starred intently. Eventually, Willie had taught me how to hiss. I did it ocassionally. I don't think I really knew what it ment though, because I just did it randomly, I even hissed at myself in the mirror. A few days later, we passed faze one. We could all be near each other without hissing! - Unless I went too close, then there was hissing! Then faze 2 was passed. We didin't hiss that much, Ajax was still very protective of his tail though, every time I touched it, - MEOW!!! Sooner or later, we passed all of the fazes and we got along great! Infact, we have these boxes on the table, and all 3 of us get in there and cozy up. This morning mommy saw something she found funny. I'll explain it talking as mommy as apozed to me. Ajax was scratchin himself with his paw, he had a little itch I supoze. Then bailey jumped up to his neck and scratched it for him, when she was finished, she kind of leaped over top of his head. I guess Ajax didn't like it that much, because he bit him. - That's not a big deal though, they often bite and chase each other around. But then Bailey bit him right back! Eventually Bailey was curled up in a ball right beside Ajax and they were restling.-Biting like crazy. When suddenly, they changed it to licking, then back to biting, followed by licking. Soon Bailey was lieing down with her stomac facing up while Ajax kissed her head, she kissed her paw, and Willie was giving cheekrubs!
COMING SOON-Willie and Ajax telling this same story in there diary in there own words.

My name is Bailey!
I just joined catster yeasturday, and I've got 2 big brothers to enjoy it with! I am still very young and quite cute if I do say so myself. I am currently at 2 lbs, and 14 oz. I've grown so much since mommy first got me. It seems like just yeasturday...... I was almost 2 pounds, I could easily be put into a pocket with my head sticking out. But if you want a more specific story of how I became mommies little girl, than here it goes. I was at a pet store, napping in the cage, when suddenly before I knew it someone was reaching in the cage to grab me to mommy could hold me. She did, she picked me up, and petted me for a long time. Mommy thought I was going to fall asleep on her! Then she passed me to grandma, I was playing with her zipper. Then back to mommy, and I was again sleepy. Mommy saw both sides of me and she loved them both! Sooner or later, they bought me! They were not expecting that they'd get a cat that day, so they left the carrier at home. That ment that I had to be put in a box. They had to rerap me in it 2 times because I always managed to stick my head outside the box and eccape my whole body! THey loved me, and, and I loved them! It was great! - Until I mat the other 2 cats! But that'll be a whole other diary entry! ............
