Arrival Story: I had two kitties for a long time. Sasha, I had gotten when I was 19 and Abbie when I was 20. Sasha passed away at the age of 18, leaving Abbie as an only cat. I missed having two kitties and started looking for a rescue kitty with Abbie's personality. She was very mellow, sweet and loving. As she was getting up there in years, too, I wanted to be very careful not to get a very active kitty. I finally found Matilda on Petfinder. She looked so sweet, was about nine months old and was named Georgia. Since I used to live in GA, I thought that maybe this was a sign. My little girl and I went out to meet her and fell in love instantly. My daughter, who was not yet three, changed her name to Matilda, since everyone tells her she looks like the little girl in that movie. Our sweet, mellow Matilda kitty soon became a very active, happy kitty who needed a younger kitty friend to play with. That's how she got her little brother Binks (and the two of them pretty much left Abbie alone). And the rest is history!
Bio: Matilda's original human had over 50 cats. She refused to spay/neuter them, so they bred unchecked. She claimed that there wouldn't be an overpopulation problem because the "coyotees would take care of that." And they did. The people from the rescue witnessed several kittens being "played with" by coyotee pups. Most did not make it. The woman was evicted from her home and left all the cats behind. My Matilda was one of them, and to this day, has no desire to dart out the door the way her adopted brother, Binks does. She's been out there and knows how nice her life is now. She chirps instead of meowing. And when she's really playfull, she'll say, "brrrrrrrrrrrr????". That brings Binks running, so we think it's his name. Matilda's growth was stunted due to malnutrition, but she is a petite, beautiful girl who makes us very happy.

Gues What!: Our good friends Diego (the handsome Matador) and Lulu sent Binks and me the most wonderful treats today: a catnip-filled banana and cigar. I played with the banana for over an hour and Binks fell asleep playing with the cigar and is now cuddling with it (that's Binks for you).
Mommy woke up two days ago to find me snuggling ON TOP of her! Binks was beside her, leaning on her leg, but I was on her tummy and chest, something I've never done before.
The other funny thing is that last night, mommy made tacos. She walked away from the table for a few minutes and when she came back, I was sitting on the seat with my paws up on the table, and I was eating the lettuce out of the little bowl. I thought the lettuce was sooooooo yummy. I want more! Maybe I need some grass.
Right now, I am sitting in the window in the office, dictating this diary entry for mommy and there is a beautiful hot air balloon soaring over the valley in front of the mountains. It is a lovely, sunny day, and looking at the balloons is always relaxing for me!
First, I have developed my very own bad habit. My brother Binks has so many that my people thought I might very well be perfect. Well, I have discovered how wonderful it is on top of the cabinets in the kitchen. This, in itself, isn't so bad. However, when I jump on top of the refrigerator to get up there, sometimes I accidentally make the freezer door open. Twice, before mommy got smart enough to put a baby-proof lock on the freezer door, she had to throw away all the frozen food because it melted. I am proud of myself. I have my very own "thing" now. Binks can wake mommy all night and not let her go back to sleep... I now have the power to be higher up than everyone (well, except for Binks when he sits on top of the landing wall) and I can ruin $200-$300 worth of food in less than the second it takes me to jump on the refrigerator! Cool!!!!
Second, two nights in a row, I cuddled with mommy. Right beside her legs! Binks is usually the cuddler, but he wasn't in his spot, so I took it. Mommy was surprised to reach down and pat a fluffy kitty instead of a sleek one. I purred and purred. Today, mommy was really tired and wasn't feeling well. She and my human sis took a nap, something they never do. When mommy woke up, my human sis (who is five) had gotten up and was playing computer games and I was cuddling with mommy. Binks was sitting in the office watching our sis play on the computer. He's a good babysitter. But I think he's the type who would eat all the parents' junk food and watch the channels on cable he shouldn't be seeing.
Mommy is so happy that I have been seeking affection so much lately. I really am a very happy kitty.
Wow! I can't believe it! I only just started keeping a diary and I have been chosen by the wonderful folks at Catster Central as a daily diary pick! Thank you so much!
And thank you to the kitties who have given me special rosettes because of this honor. I am fortunate to belong to such a loving, caring community.
Humbly,
Matilda
P.S. That tom cat hasn't come back. I must have really scared him!
