Arrival Story: My roomate had a cat that got pregnant, and I'd always wanted to have a cat, so I told her if there were a black cat in the little, I wanted it. (Except for my current cat, every animal companion I've ever had has been black)

Bio: Acyl was born in Seattle, Wa, and before her first birthday, had to survive a cross-country road trip with me and my mom. To make it even more interesting, since my mother didn't know at the time that I smoked, I had to quit right before leaving, so I was in a fine mood. Cyl just stayed quietly in her crate, never meowing or anything. I insisted we stop every couple of hours and give her a chance to go potty - and wound up having to buy some portable/disposable litter boxes because she wouldn't use ANYTHING else - not even the side of the road.
Her name came from my old Dungeons & Dragons playing days - I usually played a magic-user who's familiar was a black cat named Acyl. The name was an acronym of the Pink Floyd song "Any Colour You Like". I chose that because you get black by mixing all of the colours of the spectrum - so in a round-about (and collegiate nerd) sense, a black cat has "any colour you like" in it. Weird, but what can I say, eh?
Acyl lived with me until a couple years after I got married. We'd added 2 dogs to our family, and while Acyl tolerated them, she was never very fond of them. My parents also had a dog, but had to put her to sleep when she unexpectedly became ill. Knowing my parents were lonely without a companion and knowing Acyl would be happier away from the dogs, I let her go live with them, where she was quite content for the next 6 years. In total, she was a part of my family for 16 years. I got to see her quite a bit after she went to my folks because they live nearby, and when they would go on vacation, Acyl would come back here to stay with us. She was a true sweetheart and is still very missed.
