Arrival Story:
She had lived with lots of cats and produced several generation of kittens before owners had to leave the house and hand her over to the cat rescue. She had just had her final litter before being spayed, including our beautiful Rufus, when she came to live with us.

She was a skinny little thing when she arrived, but after three years producing babies and having to battle lots of other cats for her food she can't get it out of her head that the food might run out one day. This has had a disastrous effect on her waistline. She is certainly a grandmother and probably a great grandma several times over. Ferdie turned 18 in May 2014. She had painful arthritis, was hyperthyroid, had lost a great deal of weight and had a shadow on her liver. On Saturday 7th June the weather was terrible in the UK and Ferdie decided that the time had come - she curled up outside on the grass in the torrential rain. When I tried to bring her inside she said "No, I have had enough", so we went to see the vet, who treated her with great respect and kindness. I believe she was grateful. She had just passed her 18th birthday. She is now buried at the bottom of the garden alongside three splendid ginger tomcats. She took with her three catnip mice and four catnip socks, which had for many years been an important part of her "Prey? or Babies?" ritual. She was a splendid, dear companion and Harriet and I will miss her badly. Isobel, on the other hand, says she may not, being too busy in her new role of chief cat.
