Arrival Story: A friend of my daughters asked if we would baby-sit her for two weeks while they visited Alaska. She was very young and very thin built. They never came back to get her but she loved it here with us and made all attempts by being overly friendly and loving that she wanted to make us her family. When she wants lunch or dinner on the porch instead of coming in to eat, she lets me know by tapping on the front window and giving me a certain expression. She anxiously awaits my coming with the food dish by appearing at the widow excitingly while licking her chops. She will also let me know by walking in circles and licking her chops that she wants me to bring her food out on the porch in the nice weather. Because she must have not been handled a lot when she was a kitten, she doesn't like anybody to pick her up until now she has finally accepted me into picking her up and she actuallly hugs me! She nestles her head in my neck and wraps her one front leg around the top of my arm like she is hugging me back. It feels really nice like she is loving me because I can feel it from her. She usually will sleep close by where I am, even with me when she knows I am upset or hurt. She also likes to get up on our roof. She can get down by herself but sometimes she likes me to have to get the chair and climb up to help her come down!
Bio: Melah loves to accompany us in the yard and follow us all around and be the garden advisor. She talks the whole time while she is following you. She also pretends to guard the yard and chase of cats if I am there to witness it, otherwise she is friendly with these cats. I also tell her to make sure if she knows that a big earthquake is coming, she must let us know. She is not really close to the other cats but she tolerates them and even wrestles with Sweetpea.
We moved from the other end of the state to a nice home out in the country. I am so happy because there is so much more stuff for me to hunt and catch. Mom don't like me catching chipmunks or squirrels. I brought her 2 baby chipmunks last year, they were so little, they looked like they just got out of the nest. I didn't hurt them. I gave them to mom and now they are inside pets in a huge cage and they are happy. Sometimes I like to sit and look at them in the cage and imagine, "what if"?
Our yard had so many mole holes mom and dad thought they'd never be able to get rid of them. By the end of our first summer here, they were all gone because I got them all. Moles are very fun to catch. I missed having moles to catch so I went to work down the street at another neighbors yard and started to hunt the moles in their yard. One day when I followed mom out to the mail box, the neighbor called out to mom to ask my name so he could thank me personally for all the moles I got out of his yard! Mom bragged to him of what a good mouser I am. I also catch tons of vols but I don't like to eat them. They are yukky. I do love to eat the light brown larger sized mouse. Mom don't like me to eat them in case I get parasites so I hide when I catch them so she don't take them off me.
When we moved to our new home, dad made a large woodpile on the side of our home with a new wood shed to keep it all dry for the winter months. I have decided that it is my most favorite place to sit and wait for my daily catchins'. I also catch lots of moles and voles as well as lots of mice. Mom and Dad are very proud of me and reward me for being such good hunter. Fancy Feast is my favorite reward. Even the neighbor across the street asked mom what my name is because he wanted to thank me for removing all the moles out of his yard too.
I will lay in wait in front of the woodshed every day even if it takes hours to catch and do my job I am appointed to do.
Mom and Dad are so proud of me. Even the neighbors across the street wanted to know my name so they could thank me for removing moles from their yard too. When we moved here in December, there were mole holes all over the yard. I got rid of all of them. Once in a while, one will try to come back but that is fun for me, having a bit of sport getting another one here and there.
The only thing is mom don't like me eating what I catch. I don't eat everything of course because mom gives me fancy feast to reward me for all my hunting skills and to make sure that I would rather eat fancy feast than a raw mouse. I like to eat the light brown mousies. I leave the nose and the insides left on the front of the walkway in front of the house so mom knows that I am doing my job. I hear her say, "yuk" when she finds the innerds.
Mom makes sure that I come inside every night because we live where there are lots of wild animals like mountain lions, coyotes and bears etc. I showed mom a couple days ago of how I can run straight up and climb up a high tree if I need to have a getaway. My claws are so nice and sharp that they help hold me to the tree. Mom got me one of those fancy smancy thingies to sharpen my claws on when I come in the house. I love to use it. She sprays it with cat nip too.
