Do I really have to tell you??
He sounds like Godzilla when he cries; he is a VERY loud purr-er
I found Hemmy and his two brothers abandoned by his mom at just weeks old. They were in the hedges and they were as tiny as hamsters!! I took them on my patio and nursed them for several weeks. They seemed to be doing fine and growing until Hemmy suddenly got very ill and I had to bring him to the vet. He was incubated and put on IV and stayed 2 days in the pet hospital. Once he was well and all three brothers got a clean bill of health, I tried to adopt them out. Since being so sickly, Hemmy was very small and people called him the runt of the litter. No body wanted him -- but me!!
Hemingway is a lazy-boy; he started out so small and runty but now he's bigger than he should be! He is a polydactyl but only his front paws.
March 16, 2007 - Today we found out Hemmy has hyperthroidism. He used to weigh 10 - 11 lbs and he is now down to 7. We are working on fattening him up! He gets his medication twice a day but he doesn't like it!
Update, Hemingway crossed Rainbow Bridge on April 10, 2008 at about 6 pm. He had been doing ok and had a sudden decline in health during the previous two weeks. At the vet, we found out he was suffering from kidney failure. He weighed about 4 lbs. It was time for him to go. Sadly, we said our goodbyes and let him go peacefully with the help of our caring vet.
Hemingway was my buddy for nearly 15 years. I am still in shock that he is gone but it was the kindest thing to do. I will never forget him. I loved him as a mother loves a child. He was a member of our family never to be forgotten
