Arrival Story:
Cecil, a little, orange tiger kitten was found in Brooklyn on Good Friday with some horribly infected wounds around his neck. It appears he was tied with a wire or cord and neglected for a long time. He has other medical problems including a condition that causes fur to rub against his eyes called "eyelid angenesis." In spite of all he's experienced in his short life, Cecil's doing great and is a sweet, playful kitten, but needs to see an opthalmologist to decide if he can have surgery to repair his eyelids.

Bio:
I'm Cecil's foster mom and he is under the care of BARC Shelter in Brooklyn, New York. He also has a blog here: http://www.rescuedinbrooklyn.wordp ress.com. UPDATE 11/06: Cecil was adopted by a wonderful woman right here in Brooklyn. He's had over $2,000 worth of surgery and was a real trooper with all the vet visits and aftercare. Now he can get started on the next of his nine lives! UPDATE: 9/07: After a short illness, Cecil passed away. He died of FIP, an almost always fatal disease. His person was devastated, Cecil was her first cat, but she so missed having a feline companion she adopted two kittens when she was ready! Thanks to all of Cecil's Catster friends for keeping him in your thoughts!

Cecil Update

We went to the opthalmology specialist yesterday - 5/12/06 - at the Animal Medical Center in New York. Dr. Susette Aquino determined that Cecil was a candidate for reconstructive surgery to essentially create some new eyelids for him. He's an excellent traveler, via subway and bus, and didn't make a sound until the end of his exam when he got a little wriggly. Of course, the vets were charmed and I was proud of the "patient's" patience during the extensive eye exam. I took some photos and have more info on Cecil's blog, Rescued in Brooklyn. An angel for Cecil

After some serious networking, we found an angel for Cecil who will cover the cost of his eye surgery provided we can raise the funds in the next couple of months. This is wonderful as he needs help now and can't wait for the normal amount of time it takes to raise funds. Of course, Cecil has no idea he needs anything other than plenty of food and company! Today he got an empty kleenex box that is keeping him entertained along with a new ping pong ball and a stuffed monkey with velcro paws hanging from the roof of his kennel!
