Arrival Story:
The summer of 2005 Graysen showed up as a stray. My first glimpse of him was when he streaked across our fence one day. I saw those pretty eyes of his and wondered who this large beautiful kitty belonged to. A few evenings later I recognized him by the fire hydrant in the light of the street lamp. When I saluted him with a "hi kitty!" he stopped in his fast pawing to get a good look at me. Soon I was able to meet him when I spotted him on our fence a second time and he came down to my call and let me pet him. He was so affectionate and sweet I was immediately sold. He rubbed against me, jumped up to head-butt my hand, and licked my hand and I laughed. He was very thin and when I started feeding him it became clear that he didn't have a home. This surprised me because he was such a large beautiful cat I had thought he surely belonged to someone. Mocha did not take well to having another cat in HIS territory. He chased him a lot and poor Graysen would hide under the vehicles in our driveway. Pretty soon Graysen got in the house and became my cat! Mocha is my family's cat but Graysen is my cat and sleeps on my bed at night with me! It wasn't always so easy for Graysen to live in the same house as our other cat. At first Mocha chased him and was mean and Graysen would always run to my bedroom as a safe haven whenever he came in the house. It was so special to be the favorite person of a cat! My mother was our old cat Bootsie's favorite and I always wished that he loved me like her. It's nice to have your own kitty who loves you. It seems that the first owners who abandoned him in the street may have been abusive, because he was very shy of men at first and shy in general. It was obvious he had been someone's pet because when I took this once stray kitty in and they prepped him for surgery they noticed...Oh he's already been neutered! :o

Some fun facts: My dad used to call Graysen "the Gray Ghost" because of the way he slinked around :) and "Ski-feet" because his big feet would go out like skis when he walked. Graysen had to be given to some friends after we moved into a no pets allowed duplex. He lived happily with a two other kitties for 2 yrs. Then he developed a bad habit and the man of the house couldn't take it, and took him to the shelter saying it was a stray so that he could get in. It was winter time. Since the shelter thought it was a stray and saw that he was shy in his cage they thought he wouldn't get a home. So unbeknown to me Graysen was humanely euthanized two days before my birthday. I will always remember Graysen, my loving kitty.
