Arrival Story:
I was in the 1994 Northridge, CA Earthquake and had to find a new apartment. Once I was in my new place, I knew I wanted to get a cat. I called a local non-kill shelter and spoke to somone letting them know that I wanted a gray cat. I had asked for a gray cat because we had a gray Persian, named Smokey, when I was a little girl. The woman said they did have gray cats and to come on over. When I got there, I met with the woman on the phone and she took me back to see the cats. She showed me one cat in particular. She was a Russain Blue and just as sweet as could be. I was looking around the room and at the other cages, but she kept drawing my attention back to the Russian Blue. The woman said she would leave me and let me make up my mind. The Russain was rubbing on the cage, meowing, purring, just being a total love. I turned around and in the cage behind me was this cat that was very quiet sitting all the way in the back of the cage, you could barely see him. So I read the card that was attached to his cage and thought wow! I wanted to see more of him. I tried to get him to come to the front of the cage but he wouldn't. So after a while the woman came back and said so what do you think? I asked her if there was anyway I could see him and pointed to the cage. She was surprised but said sure. She opened the cage and brought him out. That was it. I fell in love, this was Cid. The woman asked me why him? I said he needed me more. So I adopted him right then and there. The card had mentioned he was "sweet as pie." He sure was! His full name was El Cid (The Captain) and she let me know that he came to his name. So I kept it. She said they found him wandering the streets after the earthquake and thought he was about 1 1/2 years old. Cid has brought me so much love over the years and I will always, always love him! When the tragic day came 12 years later and he had and enlarged heart, my husband and I had to make that awful decision to let him go. My heart broke that day, I was losing my beloved Cid. I held Cid in my arms when he left this world and told him over and over again how much I loved him. We had him cremated and brought his ashes home. I will never ever forget Cid.
