Arrival Story:
Just before Xmas of '05, she showed up at the farm where we live, we believe she was dumped by some unfeeling, moronic person who didn't want a cat any more. We tried putting her in the shop with the 3 other farm cats who live there, but they decided for whatever reason they did not like her & she was being picked on. We decided to bring her in to the house to keep BeBe company. We think she had probably been a house cat wherever she had lived before, because she refused to go out the cat-door in the shop & she had used the litter-box we put there for her immediately. We took her to the vet for a complete check-up & to be spayed & she moved right in with BeBe. Beeb has not been friendly & welcoming but at least she didn't attack her as the outside farm cats did so we think they are going to learn to get along just fine. The hissing only lasted about 4 days & now they can be in the same room together so things are looking up! David named her Motley because she certainly is variegated in coloration & that is what the word means.

Settling in

Motley has found her niche in the home & has even made a friend of "Old Grouchy" as we fondly refer to BeBe. She has evolved from a scared little kitty who hid under the edge of the blankets by the bed for about a week, rarely coming out except to eat & go potty, & then only at night. She is very playful & vocal, her trademark is her little "erm?" sound that means I want to play either with someone or something. She loves the little foam balls we call "BeBeballs" because they are BeBe's favorite toy too.

The only problem is she wants to sleep all day & play all night. She thunders up & down the hall most of the night, chasing either BeBe or the Bebeballs. And she doesn't hesitate to jump on us to try to get us to wake up & play for heavens sake!! We are trying to get her to stay up more in the daytime & sleep more at night. But no matter how many times you go & dig her out of her favorite sleeping spot, she just runs right back to it & curls up & goes back to sleep.

She is eating like a little horse, we think she is trying to make up for having to snatch food whenever the other cats in the shop were not looking because she was pretty undernourished when we took her in. But she is filling out nicely now & looking cute as a button!
