Esmeralda came to our home in late December, 2006, after recently losing our wonderful 14 year old baby, Checkers. You can see his profile under Esmeralda's "family."

Devastated after Checkers's death (he had to be put to sleep -- it was more merciful that way), we vowed to never have any more cats. We put away the cat water fountain, the cat food, and gave his cat carrier away. It hurt to even think about having another kitty love.

But then, Natalie decided to go on petfinder, "just to look." And suddenly, Esmeralda was there. She was so striking because she had beautiful white fur, and two DIFFERENT colored eyes! You see, when Natalie was a child, she had a white kitty who was her soulmate. As soon as she spotted Es, she knew she had found another. An excited call was placed, and soon Esmeralda was in her "furever home."

But not before giving birth to two beautiful kittens who were adopted together. There names are Pip and Sqeak. Es looks at them every now and again on the happy pet tails page of the shelter, and sends them good mommy wishes.

At first, Steve was scared to love Es, but now he wrastles with her, and calls her his "little guuurl." Among other things ;) He has even bestowed upon her the cat water fountain, and one of Checker's mice that she found in a box of old things. And Natalie gives Es whatever she wants, because Es reminded her that life is about love, and death is a part of the whole process in recognizing that love.

Besides, Esmeralda is not just any old cat. She is a magickal kitty, capable of seeing spirits, reading minds, and most of all, playing with Checkers when he comes for a visit! Some people say it's her two different eyes, but her mom and dad think that she is special, even if she is actually a rare breed of cat. She's a Khao Manee, you see -- amazing for centuries...

Amazing to us, always... we love you, Esmeralda.
