Arrival Story: After our 21-year-old and our 9-year-old cats passed away within a year of each other, my husband and I decided that we would not get any new pets. Losing them was too heartwrenching and we are getting older and wanted the freedom to travel without the responsibility of caring for an animal.
We hadn't counted on the determination of our daughter Tiffiny. She insisted that we needed another pet to love for when our elderly greyhound would no longer be with us. Tiffiny works for the SPCA and would badger us whenever they had a Siamese at the shelter, saying that we must come to see this lovely and needy cat. (She knew we had a particular soft spot for the Oriental breeds). We adamantly refused and said that we were sticking to our plan of no more dependents.
Then one day she called me at work and said that all their foster families were full-up with kittens and we were her last resort. If we could not foster three little five-week-old "brothers" for just a couple of weeks, they would have to be put to sleep. How do you say no to that? I told her to bring them by that evening.
When Tiffiny opened the carrier, out tiptoed three tiny babies, two of whom were pure white and the third a perfect little sealpoint Siamese! Brothers my eye! We knew it was a set-up, but it was too late. We immediately fell in love with our little meezer boy. Weeks later when his "brothers" were placed for adoption, Teddy took his rightful place with us as Lord and Master of our home.
Tiffiny was right. When we did lose our beautiful little greyhound the following year, Teddy's love helped us through the heartbreak.
And his kitten TK; that's another story.
