Arrival Story:
I was 8 years old and in 2nd grade when I adopted Raindrop. It was the day of my elementary school's field day and a 3rd grade girl I knew approached me with Raindrop in her arms. The girl's barn cat had had kittens 6 weeks earlier and she was giving them away this day. I knew a few of my good friends had already taken some of Rainy's brothers and sisters home. The girl claimed that Raindrop was the last one of the litter and I was determined to get her. There was only one problem. Another friend of mine wanted Rainy as well! Very diplomatically, the girl giving her away said to us, "Ok - both of you go ask your moms. Whoever gets back first with a, 'Yes', can have her!" Both my friend and I turned to race toward our moms. After one large step I stopped, turned back, and exclaimed, "I already asked my mom! And she said yes!" Not a very nice thing to do to my friend (or my mom!), but it all worked out in the end!

Raindrop got her name after several hours of thoughtful deliberation. All of Raindrop's littermates were varying shades of grey and white. After being discouraged from choosing the name "Ashes" (because one of my friends gave Raindrop's brother that very name), I finally settled on Raindrop since rain clouds are gray and the rain that comes out of them is clear, or "white". She lived for 13 years and 7 months. Most of her life, she was only friendly to me and my father. It wasn't until I went away to college that she warmed up to my brothers. (She and my mom never became more than "civil" to each other! Ha!) She enjoyed spending nights outside although she only did that when we were too slow to stop her! She was an excellent mouser. And she spent her days inside chirping out the window at all of the critters outside she couldn't chase.
