Arrival Story: When I first came to live with Mom and Dad, I was just a baby. I had my own litterbox, my own big bowl of food, another big bowl of water, lots of big soft balls to chase, and a tower to climb. I napped on a windowsill where I watched birds and squirrels, and I watched TV, and Mom played with me until I got tired. I thought, "Wow! This house is HUGE! I'm gonna love it here!" Then I found out it was just one room, and the house was really like a castle, and it even had stairs! And guess what? There was another cat there, too! Mom and Dad said her name was Teddy and she was my big sister. I could smell her and hear her nearby, and I was eager to meet her. But when Mom and Dad introduced us, she wasn't very nice to me. She sniffed everything I had touched in the room, like I had messed it up. Then she went over to my litterbox and used it, which I really didn't mind, but she kicked litter ALL OVER THE FLOOR afterward, which I thought was sort of rude. Then she walked right up to me, poked her nose in my face like she was going to say hello, and HISSED at me! Well, I might have been a kitten then, but I was never a pussycat. Know what I mean? I stood up as straight as I could, arched my back high with my fur looking like I'd just stuck my tail in an electric socket, and hissed right back at her. Sure, it was a kitten hiss, but I let Teddy know then and there that I was determined to stay. Besides, I kind of liked her. I thought she had spunk -- just like me!

Bio: My "cat-mom" was very young when she had me -- not even a year old (a good argument for spaying, if you let your cats roam outdoors which, thankfully, Teddy and I do NOT do!). Her name was Daisy, and Mom says that's why she got me a SafeCat collar with daisies on it. I don't remember clearly -- it was a long, long time ago -- but I think Daisy was a very pretty short-haired gray cat with a sleek tail. Teddy reminds me of her a lot, and maybe that's another reason why I liked Teddy so much right away when I met her -- she reminded me of Daisy.... I had brothers and sisters, too. I think there were two little boy kitties and two other girl kitties. The boys were adopted before me and my sisters. Then Daisy and me and my sisters were all taken to Mom and Dad's house in a box one Sunday afternoon, and all four of us played on the floor together one last time. Mom and Dad were there, and so was Uncle Robert. We had been living with him, and he was the one who brought us to Mom and Dad's house. Mom and Dad played with all of us and held us and said we were so cute, but they kept petting me and saying I was the prettiest kitten because I had long brown fur. (My sisters had short black fur.) I heard Uncle Robert tell them that I was "the pick of the litter" (whatever that means). Finally, Mom picked me up in her hands and held me so close I could hear her heart beating (which, by the way, has a funny rhythm). It was a nice feeling, and I just purrrrrrred back at her! I didn't even notice until later that Uncle Robert and Daisy and my two sisters were gone. From that Day on, Mom and Dad started calling me "Charly."

An Only Cat Is A Lonely Cat -- Teddy has been gone for 3 days now, and I can hardly stand it! The house is so quiet, and it seems empty without her. Even though she hisses at me and avoids me most of the time, I know that Teddy secretly likes me. I knew she wasn't feeling well because she was sleeping a lot and losing weight. But Mom says Dr. Nors is going to give Teddy a treatment that will make her 100% better. She might even start playing with me. (Wouldn't that be great?!?) I'm not gonna hope for miracles, though. It will be enough of a miracle for me to have Teddy come back home. I don't think I like being an "only" cat...
