Clothespin Mohawk!

Tanya gave Mawmee and Daddy the idea. I don't think I like Tanya. She has a very good website for kitties that have bad stuff going on with their Kid Knees.

I've been very bad at letting Mawmee and Daddy give me fluids. They say I'm one strong 7 lb. cat! I can figure out how to wiggle out of any hold they put on me.

They've tried the laundry room unfamiliar territory trick. It worked once.

They've tried the wrap-me-in-a-towel-like-a-burrito trick. Fail!

They've tried the sit-next-to-me-and-act-like-you're-not-giving fluids trick. Fail!

They've tried the sit-on-the-lap trick. Fail!

Mawmee can't stick me with the needle, but they've both tried holding me, and it is not working.

So, today they tried the Clothespin Mohawk trick that Tanya suggests.

She suggests bribery and trickery. I think she must be a witch. She also shows some cat sitting at his bowl eating while he is getting fluids. I think it is a stuffed cat. No cat is going to be that good!

If you go to this website and scroll down, you'll see some cat who is screaming his head off because they just told him he is getting a clothespin mohawk!

I was on my chair, minding my own business this morning, and Mawmee had that look in her eyes and three clothespins in her hands! I got the mohawk, and then Daddy came over and stuck me with the needle.

I was able to sit still long enough for 100 ml of my fluids. They felt pretty good about it, and the minute it was over, Daddy turned to Mawmee and said,

You better start searching the internet for the next trick!

They know these tricks only work one time! MOL!

I'm having very bad constipation with very little output. Mawmee was unable to find canned pumpkin today (what's up with that?), but Tanya said you can also use squash baby food, so she bought some of that for me to help with my dried up poopies.

That website is very useful, and Mawmee found out more info there than she has ever gotten from a vet. Sometimes she will find a flojectile throw up next to one of my hard little poopies. Tanya said that when a cat is dehydrated and tries to poop, sometimes they throw up at the same time.

Please keep on purring for me because Mawmee thinks things are not looking very good for me.

Oh dude, I can sympathize. I hate the fluids myself. I always growl the whole time. Mom might have to try the Clothespin Mohawk thing sometime. Mom also finds Tanya's site very helpful. Has your mom read about that stuff called slippery elm bark? It's supposed to help our tummies. Even Tanya said so. But it sounds so weird to me...

Who would enjoy getting poked with a needle and then having to stay still while funny stuff is going through your body.

Maybe the next trick could be giving you fluids while you're in a carrier if you have one with a top opening or something.

Purring for you lots, Violet!

Violet you are just determined to not get fluids. Love Tanya's site even for non kidney issues. Mom likes to look up the percentages of phos/sodium etc on Tanya's chart for Z & Z's food.

I feel for your pawrents. This is hard for them and you. Good they keep a sense of humor because that helps.

You will probably like the squash but if you don't you can buy pumpkin on Amazon. Mom use to do that for me too.

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs ,

Oh you get to wear a Mohawk. That is so cool. I want one too. I think the cloth pins are kinda like when Momma cat holds you by the scuff of the neck. Very smart. Be good to your pawrents, Violet. We are all purring for you.

Violet, one more little idea that helps me is that Mom has treats/goodies that I like when she does the fluids. She gives me treats when she is ready to start and it distracts me (sort of) while she puts the darn needle in. Another thought is to try thinner needles. The vet gave us 18 gauge which are huge needles. Mom ordered 20 gauge and also recently ordered 21 gauge which are thinner and a little less painful (though it's still a pain). It does make the fluid go in a little slower, but we've read that many kitties use the 20 gauge and it feels a little better. Purring for you!

We are purring so hard for you sweetie. Hugs to your Mawmie and Daddy too. We know how difficult it is for them too.

Thank you for passing along the Closepin Mowhawk link from Tanya. I haven't needed fluids since February. But that can change on a dime.

Stay strong !!

Violet honey,
I know that the fluids are not pleasant, but have your mommy and daddy give you the food you like best, even something like TUNA if you like it when you are getting them. I get my special food I love when Daddy gives me fluids. I may try and get away but usually sit still long enough for the fluids, specially if I am getting a treat. I don't like the way the fluids feel, but they will make you feel so much better.

Dear, please have your mom ask the vet about B12. Finney and Lisa's mom told us about it and it does help! I also get peractin to help with my appitite, I get pecid 2x a day before meals, and cerenia if I'm still not feeling well, and Azodyl 2x a day.

All these help me feel better. There is a fountain mommy and daddy got for us, plus I have my very own water bowl right next to my favorite sleep place. Let you mommy know the more water bowls around, the better!

Since we like to be comfortable and soft, I have a soft comforter put under me to lay on when I get my fluids.

I and of course all here will continue to purr for you dear!!! lots of purrs and power of the paw!

HI Violet
Moma had to give me fluids for 10 days and I had never had them before she was not sure she could do it so she had a vet tech friend come to the house to help (I was so good at the vets when I got fluids) I was also very good for them maybe the "stranger" was more like being at the vets so I got real still. Mom and her friend did it in the bathroom where the counter is just the right height and they could hang the bag from a towel hook. The fluids feel strange going in but afterward I always felt so much better. Purring for you and your mom and dad. My dad didn't want to help mom it was to painful for him to see me but when mom's friend could not get to the house one night dad came through for us and helped hold me still for moma

Gunnie and I are purrrrrrrrring hard for you! Mama wonders if they do not sell much reglar punkins cuz the peeples are too lazy to use the ressipee, and they just want punkin pie fillerin. Bout the pottyin and throwerin up, Missy Mups did that a lot after she got real sick. Missy had runny poops, and Metamucil helped her lots. Dr. Unkl Mike said it works either way. Missy took the reglar old kinda Metamucil, not with sugar and flavorin. It must not taste much cuz mama sprinkled it on her foodies, and she ate it right up.

We hope you feel better soon. We will ask Missy Mups to fly by and sprinkle some healin angel dust on you.

Has your Mom tried lactulose for your constipation? I get that and it works well for me. Doesn't taste all that bad, either. These days I just open my mouth for her and she squirts it right in.
