Well, the excitement never ends around here, does it? The Diary Gal clearly lost her head this morning when she chose the Diary of the Day! Luckily, that cat was kenneled and now you can't even read the diary which is a good thing.
And if you've read Arnold P.'s diary, you'll see that there is quite a stir going on with a post in The Cat's Meow blog - not so much with the post but with the trolls who got in and left some rather disgusting comments.
We were very saddened to read that one of our friends wants to leave Catster. He has had enough!
With all the changes and things that have been going on around Catster, we know how frustrating and non-fun it has been. We, too, have thought maybe it was time to leave Catster.
But you know what? We are Catster . . . . . you are Catster. If we leave, then they win. Oh sure, HQ might like to see some of us leave because then they wouldn't have to deal with issues that don't particularly bother them.
We shouldn't leave for several reasons.
1. We have too many friends, and what they do is important to us. We care when they get sick. We rejoice in their happy times. We couldn't do that if we were not on Catster. Oh sure, our Moms could see each other on Facebook, but Facebook isn't the same. This is our play place!
2. We need to stick up for those who aren't informed! The N***O situation is a perfect example of that. Too many friends had a bad experience with N***O and lost their lives. Like so many cats have said, what about the cats and dogs who visit the Vet Blog and see all those N***O ads plastered everywhere. They will assume that N***O is what the vet at the blog recommends. It is our responsiblity to contact HQ, like so many are now doing, and let them know we don't approve of those ads. Our opinions matter!
3. HQ can push the Community off the homepage if they want, but we know what Catster is really about. It isn't about what is on the homepage. It is about what is in our hearts. If they want to cater to the cats who are just here to visit and find out information about something, then so be it. It doesn't change our core group of friends. Maybe cats won't join Catster like they have in the past, but that is only going to hurt Catster - it won't hurt us. Who knows, maybe someday they will decide that it wasn't such a good decision to move us off the homepage.
In the meantime, we are staying, and we desperately want the fun to get back on track. I know summer is a time when cats are busy with staycations, and chillaxin, but please don't leave. Check that little box so that the Community Homepage is your homepage when you go to Catster. Ignore the new homepage if you want. We know where all the action really takes place around here!
And remember that famous saying by Mahatma Gandhi;
Be the change you want to see in the world
but let's instead;
Be the change you want to see in Catster!
Well said Samoa! We don't plan on leaving either. We see hope from HQ that they are taking us seriously & we want to give them the chance to make stuff right again.
We've made so many wonderful friends on here, we could never just up & leave.
So let's all stick together & tough it out. We've done it before & we can do it again!
Well-meowed, Samoa! We're staying and playing, actively! Last summer Catster was kind of slow but we got to our active summer friends even better! Looking forward to lots of Catster play this summer, kind of like summer camp!
Thank you so much Samoa!
linked your diary in mine. I believe, maybe I am a naive cat, that Mr. Ted and the rest do care about us. I believe that they were rather viciously attacked by the Catster community, that wouldn't have existed but for the site they created, when they rolled out their "face lift." Mommy and I don't like the face lift and we'd rather have the old site back. And even the old site was flawed in the random picking of diary honors because some cat who just linked a nasty site in his diary was honored on the same day I got a DDP. Sweet Lucy, who posted above me, was the one who caught that and since that day we've not paid any attention to so-called Diary honors (Catster needs to READ the diaries before they honor them).
But nonetheless, we believe Catster is a very special place, run by very special people and we ain't goin' nowhere!! :~)
sigh.... I'm weary of all this, but I'm staying!
Right here! Where I always am... doing what I always do ;)
Take up Monida's challenge to make Catster fun.
Take up Chef Rooster's challenge to cook up some fun
Take up my "Call to Kindness" or Morgan's Auction to demonstrate we are still a Community that cares about each other.
Meowmy hasn't been on Catster but about 6 or 7 months, and already it is a big part of our lives, in so many ways, and we all would shrivel up and die if this wonderfur circle of friends would come to an end by anyone leaving or giving up.
We love it...the 'community', that is...
Purrs and thanks, Samoa. You should be a diplomat!
Pipo and Minko
Dad feels so sad since the "new" Catster came into being, but we would miss all our friends too much if we left. We hope some things can be fixed so that the comments section in some of the blogs don't start to look like the mean comments on the aol boards.
We come to Catster because we love our friends, our kitties and our community here. We should stay and fight and hiss to preserve it. We hope kitties don't start to leave. We are not happy about the entire "new look" or new feel either because the site has lost so much of it's flavor and comfort, but we hope our scratching and clawing gets noticed soon.
Thanks Samoa and Hazel Lucy for talking to the big cat. Hopefully, he knows how these yucky changes have turned our happy little world upside down and not for the better either.

We're not planning on going anywhere. Like you said, this is our "play place", but we also do a pawful lot of good through Catster. And some of our Catster friends mom's aren't on FB, so mommy needs to come to Catster to visit them with us!!
Well said Samoa! Catster is our life and we're not going to let the bad apples spoil everything. We're not going to throw up our paws and leave! We've met a lot of pawsome friends in Catsterland and would feel sad about leaving. Sure, we're appalled about what happened regarding the DOTD today. Mommy's glad she didn't read the horrid thing. We were under the impression that HQ always read the diaries that were in the top five. This is a shock to us! Also, we're against N**ro too, never bought the stuff and never will.
Thank you Miss Samoa, well said!
I wrote a (long) letter to TopCat Ted, explaining why I am so passionate about the subject of pet food, and my fierce loyalty to the COMMUNITY of Catster.
Without the Community, Catster would be a dressed up empty stage with no actors or audience. The Community is what gives Catster breath and beat.
You guys are all pawsome!
Mewwwy Mew!! We aren't going anywhere either. We love the community and our friends. We just hope that the catster higher ups get the clue of how important it is. Friendship is one of the most important things ever.
We love our furriends but Catster Plus does cost money - and Mommy is furry commited to helping good animal rescue orginizations in our area - so that is money that we could put to very good purposes in helping homeless pets and so on. Not renewing on here would be that much more money we could put towards that goal, and the idea of that makes us very happy. We hope that things settle down here and that we can be **sure** that things like having the N**** ads being here will never happen again, but only time will tell with that. We will not renew unless we feel happy and safe here again - we are not at that point yet, but perhaps in time we will be again.
I agree, Samoa. I won't let the trolls win. There are too many good kitties and people on Catster that I care deeply about.
The trolls have to go.
Thank you Samoa for once again putting into words what we feel.
Catster is where the love is, where our friends are!
The tragedies suffered by family would have been unbearable for mom if not for catster friends.
When Wally died on that cold December night~in her arms in a taxi~in the first snowstorm of 2007~mom felt like she was living in a nightmare from which she could not wake up.
She came home without our beloved Wally and stayed at the computer for 3 days, reading, writing, crying and so touched and comforted by all the support.
I don't think she fully realized how loved
he was and still is..As you know we also lost sweet Syd and Alfie~ oh Alfie's death still hurts but here he still lives,
hanging out with the coolest dudes like your Calvin..
He has a 10th life and is not forgotten.
Where else but on catster?
Love and hugs
we are staying as we love our friends but we will not renew our Plus..maybe if N***o ads leave this place for good and no more poisons take its place we will be Plus once more..
Thank you Samoa..you are truly The Queen.
Way to go, I couldn't have said it any better.
We're staying because Catster has tried to fix the bad customer service we got originally. We may not pay for a Plus membership. Ours is up in August so we'll have to see what's going on by then.
It seems we can still do a lot of stuff without the Plus membership, so it may not be needed.
But - we won't hesitate to complain if we see something we don't like. And now we know to get to Mr. Ted to get help.
It is really sad that some kitties want to leave. I've made so many friends here, it's sad that some of the nastiness and some of the changes have driven some cats away. :(
I hope everyone stays and purrrrrseveres through the bad for the good. I love all the kitty friends I make on Catster. It is also one of mommy's favorite websites. Aside from the recent changes and nutro, it is one place where usually politics and all that silly stuff that bothers humans doesn't show up. Let's keep Catster a happy community to play in!
Kitties like you are the reason Catster is the wonderful place it was and is. The pawsitivity and furriendship are what it is all about.
I agree leaving is letting "them" win, but it can be tough with the changes. But furriends like you give me hope!
I haven't been on here as long as most of you, but I love Catster. I have really made some great furriends and I enjoy reading about everyone! I just hope everyone will feel better soon about everything. I don't like to see sad unhappy kitties. I don't want to see any of my furriends leave. Catster is about us, our community, thats what I try to put my focus on. Personally, I do feel like HQ is trying to make everyone as happy as they can. I feel like I have been so loved since being on Catster and have made some really good furriends. I feel like I was accepted with open paws. I thank everyone and I am definitely staying!
Hugz and purrs, Sassy
Oh, and I forgot, I just love to read about Newman, he is so funny and so very handsome, giggles!
Hugz and purrs, Sassy
Sing out, sistah Samoa! We're not going anywhere either, but all the chaos and bad feeling is furry upsetting. After reading things like the comments on the one Cats' Meow entry you referenced, we fully understand why some cats and their secataries just don't think the upset is worth it anymore. This is supposed to be a FUN and informative site, not a battlefront where we always have to on guard for propaganda and ugly trolls.
Purrs of solidarity,
Pixie and family
