When I had an appointment with my cardiologist in May, he wrote new prescriptions for me of Sotolol and Enalapril. Mommy didn't need them until she ran out of what was left in the other bottles at home.
Let's go back to September 2009 when I was first diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy. I was getting these above-noted drugs for $4.00 per bottle (30 pills in each). This is because they were on the generic list. Okay, all these years when my pills were filled, they were $4.00 per bottle.
Now, when Mommy took these two RX's to be filled today, the young pharmasist told her these aren't $4.00 at all. That was the price for human generic meds (even humans can take these same drugs I'm taking). She said somebody made a mistake. Mommy then went off and wanted to talk to the manager. Then the girl said, "okay, they'll stay at $4.00 per bottle."
Mommy told her she'd pick them up tomorrow as she had a few pills left to carry me over. She then continued shopping when the pharmacy paged her. She went back to the pharmacy portion and talked to the manager. The manager told her that it was a mistake and whoever told her it costed $4.00 for the same generic drug for pets did wrong and it was a fraud. The manager handed Mommy a Pet RX Discount Card (which no one ever gave her before nor mentioned it either). Anyway, Mommy was shown the labels for the drugs with their prices on them. Mommy didn't have her glasses on and she almost had a cow when she saw the price of $100.00 on one of them. She then put her glasses on and it was $10.78 for one and $7.00 and some change for the other. She was relieved that it wasn't $100.00!! Anyway, why do pets have to pay more than humans for the same drugs?? It's not fair at all! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Is my input to this! HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Anyway, Mommy can afford these elevated prices. Still, she thinks it's unfair for pets to pay more for the same drugs, and wished it wasn't a mistake being charged the $4.00 price for several years.
Anyway, enough of that subject.
I'm doing fine and had a nice turkey with gravy Fancy Feast. Of course, I liked the gravy the best!
Got to run.

Sampson, that's odd! The drugs should be the same quality for both humans and pets and cost the same. Unless the pet dosage is lower than anything made for humans and the pharmacy has to special order it in a form made specially for pets, I can't imagine why it would cost more. We have had our prescriptions filled at a pharmacy for years and the meds cost exactly the same as it costs for humans. And we've never heard of a pharmacy issuing a pet RX discount card! Maybe your mom can try filling your meds at another pharmacy or calling different pharmacies and asking how much ithe meds cost at those pharmacies.
Kaci, the drugs are the same as for humans. Mommy just has to cut the pills into smaller portions for me. I take 1/2 of one per day and two 1/4ths twice a day. She's got one of those pill-cutters.
It's strange that they charge more for pets and she'll ask the pharmasist why tomorrow when she picks up my drugs.
Species discrimination! I agree it should be the same..
Purring for you!
