indoors and outdoors
Arrival Story: One day in 1997 I saw a photograph of five kittens that had that Maine Coon look. Underneath the photo it said "free kittens, all boys and below that was a phone number. This photo was attached to a bulletin board outside a grocery store in Solomon's Island, MD. I called the number and went to pick up Sampson (who I named after his dad. I just added the "Silver Dollar" part to it because he had a little bit of silver cast to his fur. The owner told me his dad was silver, longhaired and big. He hid the whole time I was there. I did get to see baby Sampson's mommy who was a tiny shorthair named Skimpy. She looked like a kitten herself.
Bio: Sampson or Sampy or Pooter is the most affectionate cat I have ever owned. He loves giving me sandpaper licks, especially in my hair or on my chin. When I sit down at the computer, he always wants on be on my lap and starts in with his kneading and drooling and licking and purring. Every night he sleeps with me behind my knees. He loves to play fetch and he initiates the game by bringing me toy mice or pom-pom balls. Sometimes at night he brings me mice or balls and I find them on the bedroom floor in the morning whereas they weren't there the night before. When Bentley passed away Sampson became more and more effectionate. It was like he was glued to me. I had to get him a playmate and I did so in June of 2005. His name is Bailey Gray Cloud and he will be entered also in Catster as one of my cats.

CAT OF THE WEEK:
Well, well, well! I got in to post my diary! Now, if any other cat sees it, that remains to be a different story altogether.
I'll post this anyway:
I'm on fluids once a day and Mommy has to take me to the vet's which is in the same town but a couple miles away (the other side of town). She can't administer the fluids herself as I move around too much and she gets nervous and drops the needles to the floor. Therefore, the vet techs are doing it after hours FOC (free of charge). That's good as she saves $21.00 per day which equals $147.00 per week which grand totals at $588.00 per month. The money she pays for gas is less than that.
Anyway, I'm hanging in there and I eat everyday even though my appetite is not as hearty as it used to be. Mommy's worried about my weight as I am a skinny boy now; nothing like the 11.6 lbs when I was younger. Now, I'm only 8.6. My fur is like Cam's used to be as I have lost interest in grooming myself. Mommy combs me and Landy washes my feet and head. A few times, she has used kitty wipes to make my fur look more presentible.
As everycat may know, I'm on these fluids because my kidneys aren't working as they used to. I'm in stage 4 kidney disease. I've been taking it one day at a time now. I still Know where I am, I use my litter box (occassionally miss out on the poopies though by putting them on the mat beside the box or in the hallway). I recognize my sibs and Mommy too. I don't have that faraway look in my eyes.
Lastly, I thank everycat who gave me Power of the Paws and other gifts of healing. It means a lot to me.
Hey, Everycat! I'm posting a quick note to let everycat know that we finally got into Catsterland. Our password had to be changed just like many others. It was like we all lived in one big house and we lost our keys. We were living on the streets unable to get in.
Now it feels great to be back home! It's so pawsome!
Lastly, I'll update sometime tomorrow to keep everycat posted on my current health status.
I finally am able to get into Caster after a long period of DDOS' and cookie fleas. About cookies, give them to Mommy as she's the Cookie Monster especially when it comes to chocolate chip ones!
Anyway, I have low kidney function and have been receiving fluids everyday until further notice (it may be for the rest of my life). I'm at state 4 kidney failure and a lot of my stage 3 kidney failure was exacerbated (big word for a small 8.6 lb cat) by an infection in my tooth which got me dehydrated. We shall see after this second bag of fluids runs out and my blood work is done again.
Yes, it's a bummer getting old and having to have all these ailments. Still, I press on and take it one day at a time and cherish what little time I have left. Just a little lick on my ear from Joss helps me feel better or even a cuddle or lick from Landy. Of course, cuddles from Mommy help too.
