Arrival Story: One day in 1997 I saw a photograph of five kittens that had that Maine Coon look. Underneath the photo it said "free kittens, all boys and below that was a phone number. This photo was attached to a bulletin board outside a grocery store in Solomon's Island, MD. I called the number and went to pick up Sampson (who I named after his dad. I just added the "Silver Dollar" part to it because he had a little bit of silver cast to his fur. The owner told me his dad was silver, longhaired and big. He hid the whole time I was there. I did get to see baby Sampson's mommy who was a tiny shorthair named Skimpy. She looked like a kitten herself.
Bio: Sampson or Sampy or Pooter is the most affectionate cat I have ever owned. He loves giving me sandpaper licks, especially in my hair or on my chin. When I sit down at the computer, he always wants on be on my lap and starts in with his kneading and drooling and licking and purring. Every night he sleeps with me behind my knees. He loves to play fetch and he initiates the game by bringing me toy mice or pom-pom balls. Sometimes at night he brings me mice or balls and I find them on the bedroom floor in the morning whereas they weren't there the night before. When Bentley passed away Sampson became more and more effectionate. It was like he was glued to me. I had to get him a playmate and I did so in June of 2005. His name is Bailey Gray Cloud and he will be entered also in Catster as one of my cats.

CAT OF THE WEEK:
Lastly, I think spring has finally sprung! Other things are blooming this week besides the daffodils; oak trees, weeping willows, our redbud trees, pear trees, and cherry blossoms. Mommy's front lawn is also turning green and I think the lawn care guys will stop by soon.
I'm 17 years old today and am a very blessed kitty to have made it to this age. I was diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy in September of 2009 and have been on Sotalol and Enapril since then. The dose of the Sotalol was reduced last summer because, after time, it made my heart beat slower and caused me to have a few falling episodes. Since this reduction, I have not fallen once. I am now on 1 pill a day for an over active thyroid, and since early winter, I've been on a small dose of a pain killer because of a lower left canine pain (I can't get oral surgery because of my heart condition). Anyway, I'm blessed that I keep on keeping on. My appetite is pretty good and I love my catnip trips. I also walk up and down the stairs several times a day without any problems.
At my age, I take it one day at a time and enjoy each and every minute to its fullest.
