Goodbye my love

Tuesday, he saw Dr P - she's a first year doctor - but the diagnosis of spinal pain and bad constipation seemed logical for his symptoms (lethargic, little appetite, trouble walking, limp tail, pee'd in his cat bed). She sent him home with pain relievers and oral lube to help him "squeeze one out" which worked, but his condition declined so rapidly that by midnight he lost 50% of his motor coordination. His hind leg function deteriorated to the point that he couldn't stand or sit upright and he completely lost control of his bladder, then his bowels.

Wednesday morning, December 24 2008, he saw Dr M, and re-examined Icons vertebrae and its connections and determined that it is a neurological problem in his spinal cord. He has paraparesis and incontinence probably resulting from a tumor
or calcification that damaged the lumbar spine. Icon stayed at the Vet for a few nights over the holiday until he could see a vet that specializes in neurology.

On Friday, Dec 26 2008, I spoke to Dr M over the phone and he said that the medication wasn’t working – we had hoped Icon would improve with steroid shots for the paralysis – but his condition was getting worse by the hour. I wont describe his final moments, but on the recommendation of the Vet, Icon was helped to the Rainbow Bridge.

Easy Like Sunday

I definitely like the idea that Sunday’s are easy! The Evil Kitty outside does not have an easy Sunday - I heard an awful, dramatic, bonafide cat fight last night!! It was scary! Even from inside!!

Mia was so scairt when she heard the Evil Kitty screeching and yowling that she got all POOFY sitting on my mamas bed! I was laffin an laffin at her for getting all poofy! ha!! Katie didn’t understand what was happening because she’s never seen a real hissing, fur flying kind of fight. She’s used to hearing me hiss…. so I hope I don’t seem like a wussy wimp compared to the Evil Kittys outside who have real cat-fights.

I hope they didn’t hurt each other..

Thursday Thirteen - Happy Valentine's Day

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted Thursday 13. Here are a few things I’ve thought about recently, in no particular order…

1. I have been acting very snarky today. (because The Fosters were roaming around the house after dinner)
2. Kitten aged fosters are easier for me to tolerate than grown cats.
3. I might also be acting snarky because my ears are (secretly) itchy. I try not to let my mama see me scratching.
4. Earlier this week, I made a crop-circle. It was the first one in the new house!
5. Bond is very whiney when he comes downstairs. He walked from one chair to the next looking at the ceiling while he meowed.
6. Katie thinks Jitterbug will be a fun playmate.
7. He thinks she should stop hissing and start playing.
8. I chased Katie out of my Favorite Napping Spot a few times. I can’t help it if she keeps moving to another FNS, and I only want to nap there after I see her looking comfy.
9. I had my first hairball in the new house this week. I won’t tell you what day it happened, but mama didn’t find it till yesterday. Hehe
10. Mama keeps looking at petfinder & the Siamese Rescue sites, but swears she’s not actually “looking” for a cat.
11. Sometimes I miss Chloe. She was good for laughs and could always be counted on for doing something silly.
12. I wish I had thumbs so I could squirt the Fosters with the water bottle when they look at me.
13. Have a very nice Valentine’s Day!

Christmas is almost here!

I saw my mamma bring home a bag of Christmas presents for ME. I saw a whirly-bird with a bell, a cat nip mouse, temptations, and a new bed. I did not see a new jumpy-monkey. Mamma came back from adoption day with kits and a shopping bag (I would have preferred if she came back kit-less) and she hid the shopping bag in the closet (I saw where you hid it!)

I wish I could open the door and play with my new toys. Except, the whirly-bird isn’t fun unless someone makes it fly around the room, and unless the kits are kept in the bedroom, because they are faster than me.

Listen, I know the red dot is coming from something in my mammas hand. It makes a jingly noise - but the kits are totally fooled. They think it’s a bug even though it “disappears” when they catch it and it has no smell or taste. After it goes away, one of the kits cries for it to come back. (What a cry-baby)

Thankful Thursday Thirteen

There are several recent things I'm thankful for...

1. Not having FeLV

2. Katie doesn't have FeLV either.

3. My mom-bean's new job!

4. No more leaky faces.

5. I don't have to tell her to go to sleep instead of staying up late searching the internets for a new apartment.

6. I get to keep my Tall Man for a little while on weekends, for now.

7. I have my own litter box now.

8. Getting my ears scratched.

9. Having a support group on the cat-blogosphere. you cats are the best!!

10. Foster cats/kittens for Katie (and my mamma - cause we all miss Chloe)

11. getting to sleep with my mamma all night.

12. did I mention not having FeLV?

My windowsill perch

I have very exciting mews! I finally got a windowsill perch! I have been wishing for one ever since we moved into this apartment. In the old apartment, I had XL sized windowsills. They were great! I had plenty of room to sit, lay, take baths, and watch the outdoors in comfort.

I also just discovered that I have a great big tree outside. Some squirrels live in the tree. It is very nice to sit on my new windowsill perch and watch them. As a matter of fact, it is so nice that I think I’m going to watch them right this minute.

Congratulayshuns, Finulists!

settled into the new apartment

I finally feel settled in to the new apartment. My favorite brush was found. I was so excited to see it! I knew it was in the box in the kitchen cause I could smell it in there. It smells like me since it has my fur all in it. I think it smells nice like cookies.
I love love love to be brushed. I can’t get enough of it.
Mammacat says she could make a whole ‘nother cat out of the fur that is brushed off of me! Is that true?!? I’d like to have an “Icon clone”. I’m going to try to save the fur so’s that I can make me a clone.
I kept waking my Tall Man up all night asking him to brush me. I have a cute technique of waking him up. I walk across him a few times, then nudge his hand with my head until he wakes up. Sometimes I have to give a good head-shake to make my collar jingle loudly too. I’m not a very good “meow-er” unless I’m in a cat or at the Vets, so I have to resort to other methods of drawing attention to myself (like leaving very very stinkys uncovered in the box). This usually gets them up!

Sick days

Today is special because my Dad (the Tall Man, but not very tall cause he is lying down) is home sick. This means I am in charge (joy)!!
Mammacat said I am supposed to snuggle with him and keep the girl cats from using the bed as a NASCAR track. They love to chase each other over the bed and around the room when ever anyone is trying to sleep!
I might not be able to blog very much today - at least until mammacat gets back to relieve me of my very important job.

[After dinner update]

I had a very nice day taking care of "the sick". It wasn't very hard at all. Actually, it came very naturally to me -- we slept a LOT, had some good food, and watched some TV. Then mammacat came home and she thought she is feeling sick too. If she gets sick tomorrow, I will take good care of her, and take some naps with her too.
