Arrival Story:
Miko's previous owner abandoned her at an animal hospital in the countryside outside of Fredericksburg, VA. Although the animal hospital wasn't set up to board cats that weren't being treated, they couldn't bare to transfer her to the SPCA or elsewhere as she was already 6 years old and was unlikely to be adopted amongst all of the other, younger cats. They let her stay, but much of her time was spent in a boarding cage. I met her when I took my new kitten, Buster, to get fixed back in Spring of 2000. I loved her and decided that she should come home with us in case Buster needed a friend. She hated Buster, but I was determined to give it a real shot before I gave up. As time went on it was obvious that she and I were better suited for each other than Buster was for either of us. I was facing a tough decision as months went by and Miko became more and more depressed living with Buster. One night, while visiting a friend, my housemates called to tell me that Buster had a seizure and unexpectedly died. I was sad, but was consolled by the fact that Miko was finally truly happy. She came out of her shell more and more every day and we have been outrageously happy together ever since. I just wish I'd had her for her first 6 years as well.

I don't know much about where she came from. But she has lived with me in an apartment in Fredericksburg, VA, in a house in Arlington, VA, then in a tiny apartment in DC and now in a house in DC--although she prefers to stay in my room in order to avoid the other house cat--Cracknip. She likes to wake me up in the morning by gently tapping my face with her paw, but if that doesn't work, she will resort to walking on my hair (which hurts really bad by the way!). If I feed her and go back to bed, she tries to fake me out when I finally get up for real by crying and walking back to her bowl--insisting that I never fed her earlier. Also, she absolutely refuses to let me brush her teeth, so I finally had the vet do it. It took her 2 full days to come out of the anesthesia entirely, which meant she was falling all over the place and accidentally flipped her water bowl. Very exciting.

What happened to my food?

Mommy went to the Pet Essentials to pick up my new food supply. She swears that she got exactly the same brand and type that she always does (the only diet food that I will eat), but it sucks now. It's kind of dry and the colors is different. I think she was trying to pull a fast one on me, so I am refusing to eat it.

Mommy called the company that makes my food and they said that they changed the way they make it. Apparently they are putting more of the fat (ummm...fat....) on the inside instead of the outside. So, I tried it and have decided that it is acceptable after all. I just needed to give it a try and bite all the way through a piece before spitting it out. Sorry I doubted you, mommy!

We moved!

We moved and now I have my own place! At first I was scared. I just knew that the downstairs must be full of other kitties, like it was at our last house. So I hid upstairs. Then mommy put my food downstairs, so I had to go down there. Eventually I scouted every corner and realized that there were no other kitties. None at all! It's amazing. I am so happy. I live with 3 people (mommy and her 2 housemates) and they all love me and give me attention. Now I'll never have to see Cracknip again!

Check out this new photo of me lounging in my new living room.

Scott Allison sucks

Monday night Scott farted. I got up and had to leave the area it was so bad. Because I got up at the exact moment mommy smelled it, she thought it was my fault. Scott let me get blamed for it. I think he did it just so that he could take over the rest of my spot on the bed. Jerk. He and mommy teased me, telling me that I could only use my "fart pillow" not the other pillows for the rest of my life, just because I had been laying on a particular pillow when the incident happened. Don't let Scott fool you, mommy. He just wants the bed to himself.
