Preliminary Test Results

Show no growth in my urine sample that was sent to the labs. So that means I don't have in infection. There's something else going on. The the vet seems to think that it could be FUS (Feline Urinary Syndrome) also called Sterile Sistitus (sp?) or a mass. So mom has to go back Monday after work and talk to the vet to see what the next step is. Keep me in your purrayers.

Here We Go Again!!!

I have been having problems going to the bathroom since before Christmas. I was on Clavamox drops for a week and that didn't work. Then I was on Metacam drops for another week and that didn't work. Then mom thought that maybe a week wasn't long enough, so she started on the Metacam again but kept me on it for 2 weeks. Each time, I'd do good for a few days after the meds kicked in and then I'd have the problems again. So I was put on Clavamox pills for 3 weeks. Again, I'd do good for a few days and then would have problems, do good for a few days and then would have problems again.

So mom had to wait a week after the last Clavamox pill before I could go back to the vet. We had my appt for this last Saturday. It was decided that I'd stay there the weekend so that they could collect a urine sample and test it out.

Well, they gave me some sub-q fluids yesterday. Well, then they had an emergency c-section that had to be done on an English Bulldog. So, I had to hold it and hold it. Mom finally showed up and I was so uncomfortable because they took the litterbox out of my cage. But, I was a good girl and held it.

Finally the vet tech told mom to get me out of the cage and bring me to the table. Then the vet tech started squishing me to see if she could feel my bladder. That was a mistake! I peed all over the place and of course she didn't have anything to catch it. So guess what? I had to stay overnight again.

So today I had to go thru the torture again of the sub-q fluids and no litterbox. Mission accomplished this time. Mom came to get me after work and she was told that my white blood cell count was off the charts. So, they're sending a sample off to the lab. It'll be about a week for the results to come in.

In the meantime, I'm home. Mom has to shove an Orbax pill down my throat every day for a week. By then we should have the test results back and we'll go from there. So, keep your paws crossed that it's just an infection. If not, they'll do an ultrasound on me and check for stones or masses. Mom really doesn't like that second possibility. So, please keep your paws crossed for me. We'd really appreciate it!!!

On Again, Off Again

Back in December before Christmas, mom noticed I was having problems urinating. When I tried, there was some blood in whatever small sample I provided. So, mom took me to the vet and left me there for the day. They x-rayed me and said that I didn't have anything abnormal on the x-ray. They couldn't take any urine because my bladder was supposedly empty. So, they sent me home with 7.5 days of Clavamox (liquid antibiotic).

Well I finished the antibiotics and about 4 days later, I had the same problem and symptoms as before. Mom noticed that on a Saturday night but had to wait until Monday to call the vet. They told her to give me 3 drops of Metacam that day, followed with a single drop of Metacam for 7 more days. That seemed to work but that was short lived.

About 4-5 days later, the same problem. That was another Saturday evening that mom noticed my situation. So, she decided to do the Metacam drops again. Mom thought that maybe both the previous attempts weren't long enough and decided to keep giving me the drops for maybe 2 weeks this time.

Well, about 10 days after she started this attempt, my problems happened again. She noticed it this last Wednesday night. The vet lady is off on Thursdays so mom had to wait until yesterday to call. Mom was told by the vet tech that she was going to be referred to the Louisianna Referral Service. The vet would copy my folder and mom would have to come pick it up. The vet would call the Referral Service and let them know what was going on. Mom would have to call the Referral Service to make an appointment. The vet called it Sterile Sistitus (not sure of the spelling). They said that there's no one here that could help. Mom was confused. Nothing has been done with me, but they were automatically going to refer me to LA. Mom explained that she can't take the time off of work, can't afford the gas it would take to get me there, and wouldn't be able to afford the costs of that vet too. Of course you know this wouldn't be a one time trip. They never are.

The vet tech said that they've done all they could. So, mom restated the events...
- x-ray only
- 7 days worth of antibiotics when anyone that knows anything about antibiotics knows that they don't even begin to work until at least day 3. If there's blood in my sample, it could be an infection, and 7 days total of antibiotics probably isn't long enough
- 7 days worth of Metacam which probably wasn't long enough either
- no urinalyis
- no other testing
- never saw the actual vet. Only saw the vet tech the only time I was brought in

So mom sarcastically said to the vet tech again "so you've done all that you can do?". Mom is seriously losing all respect for this vet office. So, mom was put on hold for several minutes. When the vet tech came back on the line, mom was told that she'll be given 3 weeks of Clavamox pills (one pill twice a day) and to keep going with the single drop of Metacam daily. After the completion of the antibiotics, they'll do a urinalysis and go from there.

I'm not saying that I still won't have to be referred to a specialist, but you should only do that when you've actually tried everything that you can. So does anyone have any suggestions for us? Anything that can help us would be greatly appreciated!!!

Keep your paws crossed for me please. Maybe the third time's the charm! Hope luck is on my side!

Not My Usual Self Lately

I have been a bad girl!!! I've been urinating in other places besides the litterbox. Mom's not happy with me. Yesterday mom went to put her sandals on to take the trash out...some kitty had peed on her sandal. Of course I got blamed even though there's no proof it was me. Several of us had been caught going to the bathroom outside of the litterbox.

So, mom's been watching me closely this last week and I've been becoming quite the problem kitty lately. Yesterday I got caught in the action and mom scolded me and put me in the litterbox. When mom came home from work, she noticed someone had urinated in the same place as I had yesterday morning but this time there was blood in it. So, mom came to find me. I seemed fine. I even ate. But then right after that, I went over to the front door and squatted. I got scolded again and put back in the bathroom. So, I jumped in the litterbox and squatted for several minutes...nothing came out. I jumped out of the box and turned right around and jumped in the box again. far as urine but I did manage to get the other type out. I jumped in and out of the box several times while mom sat in the bathroom with me.

So, I spent the night trapped in the bathroom with some food and water. Mom said she was going to call the v-e-t in the morning. I hate that word!!! So, guess where I'm at right now? The v-e-t. The v-e-t lady is sick and was trying to make her own v-e-t appointment with her doctor but would be in later this morning. So mom dropped me off. They're going to call mom later after the urine test and x-rays are taken and we'll go from there. Mom's hoping it's just a Urinary Tract Infection, but time will tell. They'll check for crystals in my urine and if they find any, that means I'll have to have a surgery to remove them. I don't think any of us wants that. So, I'll be staying overnight in this place and I'm not too happy about it. Mom has to go to work and won't be able to pick me up until tomorrow. Maybe I'll have some cool kitties camping out with me tonight. If not, it's going to be a very long night!

UPDATE: An x-ray was performed and it showed no crystals or stones. The vet decided not to do a urine test but went ahead and started clavamox for a possible urinary tract infection. Mom came to visit me on her way to work. I tried to to use the litterbox while she was there but only a little came out. I cried a few times in the litterbox and mom thinks I'm in pain but the vet lady wasn't concerned. Mom brought some food for me to eat. She didn't know if I'd eat the stuff that they gave me, so now I have a choice because both of them are in my cage. I was happy to see mom but I know she won't be able to come get me until tomorrow morning. There's a few kitties around me to keep me company. One is a black kitty like me named Ray and the other is an orangie named Minnie Moo. There's also a hotdog dog 2 cages over but I don't know anything about him/her. Mom's glad I won't be alone.

I'm A Birthday Girl Today!!!

Woohoo! I'm a birthday girl today!!! I'm actually one of 3 kitties in our family that has a birthday today. It's also Simon and Shelby's birthday too. We turned 5 today! Can you believe it? 5 years already! Where has time gone? I guess it's true...the older you get, the faster time flies. Boy, they weren't kidding!!!

So what do you think mom got us? Whatever it is, I hope we don't have to share because Simon doesn't share!!! Shelby's pretty laid back and wouldn't really care. She's the lover and grooms a lot of the other furbutts. Me, on the other hand, does okay with some of the other furbutts, but cries whenever a guy kitty gets too close to me. Can you blame me...I had 3 litters of kittens within a year before mom rescued me. I guess I'm just making sure that never happens again although mom already took care of that when she rescued me.

So, 5 years old. I wonder what I can look forward to this next year. Do you think it's more prestigous than the last 4? Am I expected to behave any differently? Are there more perks associated with each additional year? So many few answers.

Maybe I need to take a nap and contemplate the answers to my questions. A nap sounds good! So, on that note, let the snoozing begin. Happy Birthday to all the Catster kitties that have a birthday today. Happy Birthday to Simon, Shelby and of course myself! We're 5 today!!!

OMC!!! I'm the chosen one today! I'm the featured Diary of the Day kitty on the homepage! I'm so excited!!! This is such an honor and I am definitely honored to be chosen!

Thank you Catster for selecting me as a Diary of the Day kitty! You have made me a very happy kitty. I'm literally bouncing off the walls today and mom is very proud of me. Of course the other furbutts in the house are jealous (like usual). I won't rub it in their faces (too much). I'm normally a very quiet and timid kitty, but today is my day to go a little crazy and I'm going to do just that. Thank you again for making my day so much brighter!

Thank you to Noche, Sammie and KiKi, and Vanessa for the beautiful rosettes! I have such good friends that make me feel very special! That was very sweet and thoughtful of them!!!

I hope everyone has a beautiful Catster day!!!

Annual Vet Visit

I had my annual vet visit today and I must say that I do much better at the vet than Tigger does. We were like night and day. Tigger is very aggressive and vocal and I'm pretty laid back and let them do their job. Of course when it came time for taking my temperature and providing a sample to check for worms, I locked it up. I think they called it the "pucker factor". They didn't get much of a sample but it came back negative which is always a good thing. I weighed in at 8.6 pounds which is less than last year but that's probably because of having a bigger house now and I actually have to walk further to get to the food and litter boxes. So, I don't have to go back to the vet again until this time next year and hopefully it will stay that way!!!

The Rules

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Cats who are tagged need to write in their own diary about the seven random facts and the rules. You need to choose seven cats to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment that they have been tagged and to read your diary.

My Seven Random Facts:

1. I'm the only kitty in the house that has a curly tail

2. I love crawling in a lap whenever anyone sits on the sofa. It doesn't matter who's lap it is.

3. I don't get along with any male kitty in the house or Tabby

4. I love to rub myself against mom's head when her hair is wet. I also try to eat it.

5. I tiptoe around the house and I walk very slow whenever I'm trying to crawl into a lap.

6. I drool on mom's shirt every time I get to lay in her lap

7. I have my own litterbox in the guest bathroom that mom set up just for me. This way I don't have to walk thru the area where the guys hang out at.

Now I tag these 7 kitties:

1. Sophie
2. Ziggy
3. Suki
4. Sagwa
5. Paco
6. Gracie
7. Slinky

Thank You Catster!!!

The truth finally comes out! Mom knew something was a little off this morning but didn't know why. She woke up and found Tigger, Simon, Lucky, Sunny, Tanner, Shelby (under the covers) and Stormy on the bed. It was very crowded!!! The only 2 kitties that weren't there were me and Bella. That never happens (all the kitties on the bed). Mom was very surprised! But little did she know, all the furbutts were in there crying. Boo hoo!!! Cry babies!!! They're just jealous! Even the dog was a little clingy. Odd.

So after mom took the mutt out for a walk, she decided to check her email. Finally. I was only camped out on the computer chair for an hour waiting on her! That's when she saw it... an email from Catster telling us that I'm one of the Daily Diary Picks of the Day!!! I also got a Shamrock Rosette from Sammie and KiKi concatulating me for being selected. Thank you! I also got a Shamrock Rosette from a handsome kitty named Tuxedo. Thank you! I feel so special!

So now mom knows why all the furbutts are hanging around her. They're jealous! I'm okay with that. Bella's not jealous because I taught her well. She's happy for me.

So, I just wanted to take a moment and thank Catster for bestowing this honor upon me for the day. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Today is going to be a purrfect day.

Again, I wanted to say a special Thank you to Sammie, KiKi, and my handsome drooling buddy, Tuxedo, for the beautiful rosettes. That was very sweet and thoughtful of you.

Here's hoping that every kitty has a purrfect day! I know I'm going to.
