Arrival Story:
Back in 1994, my older son brought home a little black and white kitten. His friend's cat had a litter of 4 and they wanted to find homes for them. He was so cute but I did not want a pet at that time. I told him to get it out of the house, nervous that I would fall in love. That night I had a dream that I was walking along a beach cuddling a kitten. The next morning as I was reading my newspaper, my horoscope said "pets bring pleasure". I never read the horoscope, just that one day, so I took it as a sign. I woke up my son and told him to go get that kitten back.

Bio:
Spanky turned out to be the kids' cat, he absolutely adored them. He slept with them, hung out in their room with them and their friends, playing with them all the time. He adored everyone, even people who didn't like cats couldn't imtimidate him. In 1997 we moved from the Bronx apartment we had been living in for 13 years and moved into a condo in the suburbs. Spanky used to love to run outside when we opened the door, never seeing outside before, and we stupidly thought it cute that he would run around in the grass and come home 2 or 3 hours later. One morning in 1999, he was looking very tired. When I came home from work, I took him to the emergency vet, he had a fever. She kept him overnight with IV antibiotics, he had a raging infection. The next morning when I called the vet, they told me he had passed during the night and they had found animal claws, probably a racoon, embedded in his neck. If nothing else, the Spankster taught me about my love for cats and for that I will be eternally grateful to him. He is sorely missed.
