Arrival Story:
Always had a black cat growing up. Picked Fang by her picture from Homeward Trails, an adoption agency that pulls animals from "high kill" shelters, and adopted her at the same time as her big brother, the Carolina Dog. When she arrived, the rescue folk apologized as they handed her over -- only 8 ounces -- the smallest kitten anyone had ever seen. She didn't eat for a couple of days until I figured out that they were wrong at the shelter; she didn't eat dry food yet. I popped open a wet can and she quivered all over and dove into it headfirst. During her early days she concentrated on becoming spherical, with great success. I spent the first three months terrified that the puppy would think that she was a Scooby snack; but soon she was jumping over the kitchen baby gate to be with her puppy brother. I figured such a tiny girl needed some help in a cruel world; gave her a name to inspire terror. She has lived up to it.

Bio:
We had the early tail accident; she was hiding behind a heavy board leaned up against the wall and moving the board it slipped and got her tail. Emergency vet run! She became a tiny kitten with a little pink cast. But the tail is all better now. . . . I suspect that she thinks that she is a dog. She licks to show affection -- wanders up to you, gives you a few quick licks. Shakes herself from side to side, like the dog. Rings the bell on the door to go out, like the dog. Plays with the dog's toys. But she also pounces the paper coming out of the printer. Sits on the keyboard. Rubs herself purring all over my silk blouses and puts claw holes in them. Pokes lots of little holes in potato chip bags (likes the crinkly noise). Investigates every hole large enough to hold a cat. . . . Her greatest grief in life is no one her size to pick on. Occasionally, she tackles Koorazh (the dog) like a lion trying to bring down an extra large gazelle; then he squashes her with a paw and flea bites all her fur until she is sopping wet. She used to come running when I called her, so fast her feet would skid. But then the dog figured that out and would wait in the hallway to pounce her. Now she often doesn't come when I call. But they sleep next to each other on the bed and sometimes she grooms him. . . She loves the Kitty Teaser Deluxe! (A fishing pole with a string and a piece of denim.) I have to hide it because otherwise I am likely to hear the lovely sound of a cat dragging a fishing pole around the house over my hardwood floors. . . Although I wouldn't mind cuddling her more, she is not into laps. She will sit in your lap provide you feed her cat cookies, and provided that cat cookie delivery does not fall below the minimally acceptable rate. If you are being too slow, she will grab your hand and guide the cookie to her mouth. Once cookies are done, there is no reason to linger! Part cat, part monkey! No cat-sized hole will go unexplored!
