Food! Eating was what she enjoyed most in life. She loved to be near me - she would follow me around to sit next to me and watch me.

Pet-Peeves:
She was really too old and had been through too much to let anything bug her. She didn't like that I don't sit still - she had to keep getting up to follow me. She didn't like her nightly sub-"Q" too much.

Favorite Toy:
None. She loved sleeping in warm, sunny spots.

Favorite Nap Spot:
See above

Favorite Food:
You name it - she ate it and loved every morsel. She enjoyed Merrick canned food and laughing cow cheese (she took pills wrapped in it and ate it while being hydrated).

Skills:
Being able to love unconditionally. Extreme patience.

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story:
I was going to my office late at night to get some extra work done, and I parked my car in a neighborhood with TOO MANY outside cats. I always acknowledged all the kitties I'd see and I saw one tiny "kitten" in particular who was meowing loudly at me to notice her. When I got closer, I was extremely concerned. She was so small and was holding her body in a strange position. I immediately became afraid that she had injured her back. I sat on the sidewalk with her and called my boyfriend to meet me there with a cat carrier. We took her to the animal ER for treatment. Once she was examined, it was determined that she was NOT a kitten, but actually old (like 12 - they said) and painfully thin. I took her to my vet the next day, and he said she was even older (16 yrs) and really sick. Bloodwork indicated that she probably had cancer and my vet said she would probably live about 2 months. I was determined to nurse her back to health - she lived another year and 2 months. I cherished every minute she was with us.

Bio:
Sammy really endured a lot - nightly thyroid pills (encased in Laughing Cow cheese), numerous trips to the vet, anti-nausea meds, monthly baths because she was unable to groom herself, and for the last 4 months of her life, nightly subcutaneous fluids. And all the while, she was a sweet and patient kitty who endured all of these treatments as if she knew it made "me" feel better. Sammy used to "sun-down" - she wander down the hall and meow/moan in confusion - like a demented wail. We began giving her naturopathic anti-anxiety tablets (in cheese) to help her be calm. She was so sweet. As you can tell from her pics, she was super-skinny. On the thyroid meds her weight "ballooned" to 6.5 lbs. We took her off it when she began vomiting from them. Her weight dropped to about 4 lbs. She was arthritic - her bones were old and creaky. If you picked her up, you could hear pops and cracks...needless to say, we didn't pick her up much. She loved people as much as she loved food. She'd always stay in the middle of the the room when we had parties. Little kids loved her because she was my only cat who wouldn't (COULDN'T!) run away when they came over. She moved so slowly! Her last day on earth was September 17, 2004. I had been baking cakes for a friend's wedding the next day - we were going out of town the following morning to attend. That morning I couldn't find Sammy and when I did, she was facing the corner of the tub and was panting. She had bad days before, but I knew this was different. I called the vet - afraid of what he would say...but took her in anyway. He said she was in cardiac failure and was suffering...this was her last day - she wasn't going to recover. We made the decision to end her suffering...it was the hardest thing I've had to do. To put her to sleep, they were going to give her two injections. The first was to make her sleep and the second would stop her heart. The first injection was too much for her system and she passed away...Sammy, we miss you so much!!!
