Arrival Story:
My husband and I had lost our 17 1/2 year old cat, Pepper, to kidney disease in early August 2005, and we couldn't stand the quietness of the house. We decided to get a kitten a couple weeks later. When we walked into the neighbourhood pet store, one kitten in a cage of nine kittens got up to greet us. She was so adorable we just had to bring her home. She has been a blessing to our household ever since!

A new brother!

Mommy & Daddy have been talking about getting another kitten - someone I can play with. I'm not too sure about the idea, but yesterday they came home from shopping with a cardboard box. Mommy went straight into the front bedroom with the box, then came out and put it on the floor. I could smell another kitty on it! I was really curious, and it took me some time, but I finally figured out that the kitty was in the bedroom! I went to the door and peered underneath, and could see a set of black paws on the other side. I didn't hiss or growl, just sat and watched under the door.
After a couple of hours, Daddy suggested to Mommy that they let the other kitty out for a bit since I hadn't hissed or growled. They did, and I got to meet my new brother! His name is Zippy, short for Greg Zipadelli. I'm named after the NASCAR driver and my brother is named after his crew chief! I still didn't hiss at him, but I did bat at his tail and sniff his bum. Mommy thinks I might have tried to nip him a few times, but I'm not telling her if that's what I'm doing. Then Zippy sneezed - a great big sneeze, with boogers and all! Mommy quickly ushered him back into the front bedroom to be quarantined. He'll be going to the vet on Monday, so I'll have my house all to myself again!
Zippy is really a nice cat, even though our introduction has been brief. He just wants out of the bedroom to play and be cuddled, but Mommy & Daddy are too concerned he might have something I could catch. I don't want to be sick either, so I'm keeping my distance!
I've been sitting on a chair looking out the back door at the birdies and squirrels for most of the afternoon instead of hanging around Zippy's door. Mommy thinks this is a good thing. Mommy & Daddy have been trying to spoil me, but I have spent so much time outside Zippy's room that I haven't spent a lot of time with them!

Fixed? But I wasn't broken!

Last Thursday, my Mommy & Daddy took me to the vet's office and left me there all day. Daddy said I was going to be fixed, but since I hadn't broken anything, I didn't quite understand. I had a wonderful nap in the cage at the vet's, but when I woke up, my tummy was shaved and it was very sore. I couldn't wait to get home, and was so happy to see Mommy & Daddy when they came to get me.
When we got home, I was so hungry and thirsty that I wolfed down my mucky food, and couldn't keep out of my bowl of crunchies. Mommy thought I was eating too much, so she took my crunchies away, but I was STARVING! I hadn't had anything to eat in almost an entire day and was ready to make up for lost time.
Mommy followed me around the house all night and she was really worried about me when I went up and down the stairs and jumped on my kitty condo. She wanted me to lay down and rest after my day, but I wanted to investigate my house to make sure nothing had changed while I was gone! I finally settled down in my favourite chair and had a nap, then went to bed with Mommy like I do every night.
The next day, I felt so much better and made sure Mommy & Daddy knew I felt better by racing around the house. Mommy says I can run faster now than I ever could before. My tummy is so itchy and I just want to scratch, but I keep getting told to leave my tummy alone. Mommy threatened to get an ecollar for me, so I'm trying not to lick and bite my incision, but it's soooooo hard!
Mommy told me the other day that I won't be able to have kittens now, but that's okay. I like it being just me and Mommy & Daddy in the house. I don't want to share them with anyone!

Big Trouble!

Yesterday, I discovered that I can climb the Christmas tree! I can make it almost to the top. Mommy and Daddy thought it was really cute at first, but when I started chewing on the lights, Mommy got angry with me. She ended up taking all the lights off the tree and was upset because I squished all the branches that she so painstakingly fluffed up the day before. I even knocked the tree over once when I tried to jump from one of the high branches onto the window seat. I thought it was pretty cool, but Mommy sure didn't. She said she was glad that she hadn't finished decorating it, or we would've had a real mess.

I'm only a kitten, and my curiousity sure gets the best of me sometimes. I just had to see if I could really climb the tree and it was so much fun, I had to do it over and over again!
