Hi to all Spike's Catster friends
I want to let you know that Spike died 11/18 in the morning. He had cardiomyopathy. I took him to the vet the day before thinking he had upper resp and that's what the vet thought then as well. She gave me some antibiotics and told me to try to stimulate his appetite with baby food. Well, I got a pill down him and then I wound up with food poisoning and spent the bulk of the night either puking or feeling like I was going to. Spike declined pretty rapidly and made that yowling sound that I have only heard once before and I knew that meant death was imminent. We went back to the vet Saturday morning where they took a chest x-ray. I held him while we waited for the film to develop and he made that sound again and started squirming, so I helped him get back into his carrier. About 30 seconds later he was gone. I never in my life thought I would want to hold and hug a dead animal but I didn't want to let him go. Trust me, I'm still being dragged kicking and screaming into the realization that he's never going to nudge me for pets or brushing again. I miss my little dude so much. I hope he was happy here and that he felt safe and loved!!! He had such a rough start to life and truly deserved a wonderful life. I hope he's happy in kitty heaven and being shown the ropes by his friends that got there before him. I hope he never has those fears that his feral instinct wouldn't let go. He was just a great cat and I love him so much!!!
