Favorite Nap Spot:
Everywhere! He goes through phases - the bed, laundry basket with clean clothes, sink, couch, chair, floor, on top of the refrigerator, in bathtub....
likes the gravy of wet food and only likes Temptations treats
the most cuddly, adorably kitty ever!!!
My father had just lost one of his two cats and his wife to cancer. I was living with him just outside of Indianapolis for a few months after graduate school whilst grieving over my mother and trying to find a job. My sister was convinced another cat would be good for my dad. He insisted he did not want nor need another cat.
One of my sisters colleagues had found a female cat who had given birth to a litter. If we didn't take this particular kitten, the colleague threatened to "drive to the middle of nowhere and drop him off". Once I heard this, I had to take the cat. I had been planning on getting my first cat, Dexter, a companion, after we had moved from St. Louis (where my roommate had a cat), but was waiting until I found a job in D.C.
I vividly remember meeting him. My sister brought in a carrier and opened the door (yes, I know that's not how cats should be introduced, but she is clueless). Freddie confidently strutted out, walked to the middle of the room, jumped on the coffee table, and plopped on his side. My father and I were both shocked and highly amused at how comfortable he made himself! Dexter at first wanted nothing to do with the new cat, but Freddie insisted and soon they became friends. A few weeks later, I set off with my meager belongings and two cats on the way to D.C. (to be with my now-husband).
Oh, and when Freddie waltzed out of the carrier and I saw him for the first time, I thought, "Not a very attractive cat, but I will love him regardless, of course". He looked scruffy and just not very healthy because he was not taken care of properly. The evil colleague's children had cut off most of his whiskers :(. Well, with my love and care, he grew into a gorgeous young cat.
Freddie is the most affectionate, cuddly, loving cat I have ever known (and many people have agreed). He acts like no other cat. When anyone comes over, regardless of whether it's a friend or the plumber, Freddie thinks they have come to visit him and is all over them. Or, conversely, sometimes he gets jealous and demands I pick him up (he does this by standing on his hindlegs and stretching his front paws on me) and drapes around my neck as I walk around.
Freddie is also doing his post-doc work on sleep technology. He can sleep anytime, anyplace, and any way, although at night he prefers the top of my head.
