Arrival Story: Colby and his brother, Jack, to0k up residence in my yard around October 2004. I fed them for a couple of months before I was able to catch them and bring them into the house. They are shy cats with strangers, but are delightful with me – very loving and affectionate. Colby is way too smart to even venture outside when Lucy opens the door - he is a confirmed house cat now and he likes it that way! He loves to lie in the window perch and on the 'throne' of pillows on my bed. He loves other cats and is perfectly fine with my small dog. In fact, of all of the cats, he is Pony's favorite :o)
Bio: I am currently fostering Colby and Jack for Furkids, an Atlanta no kill cat rescue. If you are interested in adopting them, you may contact me or go to www.furkids.org to complete an application on line. They would love to find a patient home who will work with them for the couple of months that it will take for them to get adusted to a new home.
Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Cats who are tagged need to write about themselves (the seven random facts) as well as the rules in their diary. You need to select seven cats to tag and list their names. Don't forget to leave them a comment (via p-mail) telling them that they've been tagged and that they need to read your diary for more information. My family is going to play by altered rules and we are not going to tag other kitties. Mom was on vacation for a week and came home to a mail box full of 'tags'
MY SEVEN FACTS
1. I like to drag my butt on the dining room rug, but ONLY the dining room rug.
2. I like it when my mom sings to me.
3. I don't really like canned cat food.
4. I'm raw fed and I really like raw chicken hearts.
5. I won't go outside. PERIOD! Even if the door is wide open.
6. I aspire to have a job in home improvement. I love checking out all the tools and odd jobs mom does around the house.
7. I ate a moth last week.
I'd like to give a special shout out to Ollie's mom. He says she's a big fan of my new Speedo photo and I wanted to make her feel special the next time she stops by. *winking at Ollie's mom* How YOU doin'? (in my best Joey from Friends voice)
Hi everyone, Colby here. You might not be able to tell from looking at my pictures, but I'm a part feral cat, also known as a shy or scared cat. That's right, we don't always look that much different than other cats! My brother, Jack, and I lived in my mom's yard until she captured us at about 6 or 7 months of age. We've been in the house for over a year now, with a very loving and patient mom.
When we first came into the house, I was the more outgoing of the two of us. I'm not sure when all that changed, but it did, and in a big way. Jack is now almost like a normal old house cat. Not afraid of much, hardly runs from mom anymore. But me? Well, I'm still very afraid of everything. I still run from my mom most of the time and will only let her pick me up when I'm in certain places in the house. Like on her bed, in the window perch, or lying on the couch or chair.
But I got something really cool for Catmas. Santa Claws brought me a Magical Collar of Bravery. There is even a little charm with my name on it, and a series of numbers, which I assume is my serial number. This collar transfers magical powers to me that allow me to not be so scared. I've been coming in the kitchen more and when my mom holds her hand down to me, I'll sometimes walk up and smell her fingers and let her touch my nose. One day I even let her pick me up and give me hugs. She took me a little by surprise, but I was OK with it.
Since I got the collar, I've also been sleeping more up on the back of the couch and in the chair. I don't hide under the table as much any more, and I'm getting up on the bed every morning to ask for attention. I know I still have a really long way to go, but if I keep this up, I'm going to be as brave as Jack is before much longer!!
Thank you so much, Santa Claws, for giving me this Magical Collar of Bravery. And thank you, mom, for telling me over and over how handsome I look wearing it and how proud you are of me for being so brave. I want to be braver...I don't like being afraid!
